It said so many things in so many different ways, some of them contradictory even to the conclusions of host Story that it wound up saying nothing. The usual pros and cons were heard somewhere along the line by spokesmen of various types, but the main idea was to draw chuckles, not produce pre-ception.

Well, fun and feminism don't mix. I imagine the women who watched were more upset than the men but what was presented on the screen. Murdocks and the McCIays The last of ABC's "Comedy Previews" and the worst of a bad lot was "The Murdocks and the McCIays," a cornpone travesty on the feud of the Ca-pulets and the deep in the hills of old Virginny. The biggest thing about this unsold pilot was its aggravating laugh track, which roared hee-hawed at every sad line of the infantile in which the sweet loye affair of. Junior Murdock and Julianna McClay was balked at every turn by the idiotic antics of the old folks, ending in a.

Under the title of "Crisis Clinic," it bid for a spot on the CBS schedule, but lost out because of its similarity to the' ABC entry, first called "Dial Hotline" as a two-hour movie and now retitled "Matt Lincoln" for the new season. "Crisis," aired as a drama special last night, was a typical example of the "headshrink" genre, in- volving an insanely jealous ex-husband who had gone to jail two years for beating up his wife and now was plotting to kill her while repeatedly calling the head of the city's psychiatric center in an un- conscious plea to be stopped. The people portrayed were not interesting nor even rounded characters, and the rather slender story had to be considerably stretched to fill the hour. It built up a modicum of suspense as the knifing act is prevented in the nick of time by police racing to the scene, but was not really a topnotch pilot and deserved its quick demise. The cast was rather substantial in true Quinn Martin fashion, with Carl Betz as the Crisis Clinic head, Billy Dee Williams and Roger Perry as police specialists, Robert Drivas as "the deranged musician, Ruth Roman as his trampish mother, Susan Strasberg as the threatened wife, and Carmen Mathews as? her mother.

But. they were working from an impoverished base. Women Are Revolting The double-meaning title pretty well sums up the tenor and purpose of this cutesy-look at the Women's Lib movement, as put together by host Ralph Story for National General Television and aired on Ch. 4 Wednesday night. This was not really a serious examination of a se-i rious crusade but a tongue-in-cheek approach that was often on the verge of a lampoon.

Levin Globe Staff, The legislature has ended its 1970 session with an impressive record of laws passed in behalf of the elderly and signed into law by Gov. Sargent. These measures include rent control, housing, ($100 million for the elders) and the creation of a cabinet-level Department of Elder Affairs.

On the basis of these and other bills in behalf of aging citizens, here is Senior Set's honor roll of the 11 men on Beacon Hill whose support for these and other measures was the most consistent and the most productive throughout the session: Executive Department Gov. Now for some more mailbag comment on Chapter 456, acts of 1970, the amended tax exemption for over-70 homeowners: You said you would like to hear from anyone whom Chapter 456 has helped. 1969, as a result of a capital gain on some stock I sold and even smaller amount of bank interest, I had $4300 income plus Social Security.

As a rent payer having no direct interest in Chapter 456 I believe that the legislature's Taxation Committee should be commended (1) for its efforts to disqualify persons of large means (from claim the age-70 tax exemption) and (2)) to restore the statute to its intent as originally enacted in 1963, namely, to aid persons of moderate means and (3) to eliminate against persons not covered by Social Security Carl C. Perry, West Newton. A. Thank you very much, Mr.

Perry. My reply: Point one the committee's effort has missed its target. Point two the legislature's "original intent" was set forth in the law whose language was very clear. Point three this new law is in effect a tax on Social Security, frustrating the intent of the US Congress to place a tax-free floor under the income of those retired from business and industry. They conducted their own classes, the government said, and refused to allow their children to be transferred to newly-assigned schools. BIRMINGHAM, Ala. A Federal judge ordered nine parents into court in Alabama yesterday to answer charges of trying to thwart a desegregation plan by taking over their children's classrooms. Judge Hobart. Grooms ordered the parents, all residents of Talladega County, to appear today in Birmingham for a hearing on a Justice Department request for an in- junction to stop them from interfering with the schools.
