United Press Internation- HOLLYWOOD Cobina Wright, singer, socialite, journalist and hostess, died Thursday after a stroke. She was in her 80s. Miss Wright devoted most of her life to the "beautiful people" and the jet set of which she was a member and a recorder. Born Elaine Cobb on an Oregon ranch, she was raised in Boston by an aunt.

At 16 she studied opera in Europe, making her American debut at Carnegie Hall in 1924. She entertained American troops abroad in World War II. She was twice married, to author Owen Johnson and later to millionaire socialite William May Wright. She became famed as a party-giver, mixing friends from the entertainment world, politics, finance and society. Both marriages ended in Ethel S.

Whiting, Belmont resident Belmont services for Ethel S. Whiting, of 43 Carlton circle, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in All Saints Episcopal Church, Belmont. She died Thursday in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Mrs.

Whiting had been a resident of Belmont 50 years, and had recently celebrated her 50th wedding anniversary. She was a member of the Belmont Women's Club, the Belmont Circle Florence Crit-tendon Leaue, and the Mt. Auburn and McLean Hospital auxilaries. She leaves her husband, Richard A. Whiting; one son, Eichard of Bedford Village, N.Y., and one daughter Mrs.

i rill II II il W. J. LANDERGAN W. Landergan, Lynn judge for 21 years LYNN Judge William J. Landergan, 70, of 263 Lynn Shore presiding justice of the District of Southern Essex County for 21 years, died yesterday at Lynn Hospital following an illness of six weeks.

Judge Landergan graduated from Boston University Law School in 1924 and served as a state representative from Lynn in 1935-36. He was assistant attorney general under Gov. Paul J. Dever from 1937-40, and was appointed to the Essex County job by that governor in November 1949. He leaves his wife, Gertrude D.

(Donovan); one son, William Jr. of Lynn, and three daughters, Mrs. John E. Gallagher of Melrose, and Mrs. Joseph D.
