Colin Gillis, who represents Wattendorf, first filed a motion asking for a new trial on grounds the title examiner who testified at the trial was not qualified as an expert. After that was denied Gillis filed another motion Landlord George V. Wattendorf of Jamaica Plain had his case continued today after he was fined $42,000 on Feb. 27 in Suffolk Superior Court on charges of maintaining an unsafe tenement building. Wattendorf was given until today to pay the fine by Newburyport District Court Judge A.

Paul Redmond and Frank Dimento pointed out that Federal court judges have set lower bail in similar cases, Judge Paquet set $20,000 bail on Zannino and on Lamattina, $10,000 on Neid and $5000 on Durgin. Assessors veto boost of 5 percent The Somerville Board of Assessors today unanimously rejected a proposal filed by Mayor S. Lester Ralph to increase real estate property assessments by five percent. Ralph proposed to raise SI. 5 million through the increase which would in turn be used to lower the city's tax rate.

Board chairman Mrs. Mary Tomeo condemned the measure. She caled it a "deceptive plan to raise $1.5 million through hidden costs." She said the taxpayers would ultimately be paying about the same taxes. Another proposal by the mayor to raise funds by increasing all asess-ments by adding $500 was previously rejected by the board. Prisoner fatally knifed at Walpole A South Boston man serving 12 to 15 years in Walpole State Prison for armed robbery was stabbed to death early today in the prison laundry.

Prison officials identified the victim as Arthur J. O'Neill, 28, of South Boston. A spokesman at the prison said another prisoner was detained in connection with the stabbing. Identification was withheld. Norfolk County Dist.

Atty. George Burke launched an immediate investigation. O'Neill was taken to the prison infirmary and then to the hospital at nearby Norfolk State Prison, where he was pronounced dead at 9:10 a.m. The victim began serving his sentence on Jan. 24, 1967, the spokesman said.

Drug raids net six in Cambridge New York city, Trenton, Four women and two men were arrested by Federal and Cambridge authorities early today in a series of narcotic raids in Cambridge. Three of the suspects were arrested in an auto bearing Ohio registration plates about midnight. Within the next three hours agents with search warrants made additional arrests at two rooms in a motor inn. Authorities said a quantity of narcotics was recovered in the auto and in the inn.
