A member of the committee and sponsor of the measure, Rep. Frank L. Bunting (R-Brandon), said Friday that Atty. Gen. James M.

Jeffords wants the language cf the bill a bit more restrictive and clarified. As proposed, the measure would allow abortions in cases where doctors decide there is a "substantial risk the mother's life or health may be impaired" by continued pregnancy; where there is suostantial risk" the child may be "born with mental or physical defect," or where the pregnancy resulted from rape or incest. Welfare Dept. Associated Press MONTPELIER Vermont Legal Aid, has filed suit against the Vermont Social Welfare Department, charging it with violating Federal regulations, which require cost of living increases for persons receiving assistance under ANFC. ANFC is the Aid to Needy Families with Children program. Legal Aid director Richard Blum said Friday some S100 families in Vermont are affected by the ANFC programs. He urged action be taken retroactively for families which should have been receiving cost of living increases in payments last year.

Patriarca and four other defendants in a murder trial in Superior Court Friday. Defense attorneys contend that pretrial publicity has prejudiced the case and most of this week has been devoted to the reading of radio news scripts, playback cf taped radio broadcasts and projection of television news fifllms by broadcast newsmen subpoenaed by the defense. After hearing a newsman from Station WJAR read a newscast from the witness stand Friday Judge Bulman addressed the newsman present. "We started hearing this on the afternoon of Jan. 8 on this very matter of the case being continued because of pretrial publicity," Judge Bulman said, "And two days later we have put out before the listeners the very material to which defendants objected." Judge Bulman referred to the reappearance in stories broadcast Thursday of the remarks about the trial contained in the earlier stories.
