Detroit's strategy for March envisions further cuts in the critical days' supply. The strategy is counting on relatively low production and a sharp rise in the daily sales pace in March from the February level. The current targets for production next month call for only 650,000 cars, down 14.4 percent from a year earlier and the lowest for March since 1963. Total U.S.-make car sales are expected to be in the same area, so total inventories will rise little from the expected Mar. 1 figure of 1,575,000.

However, auto sources figure the higher sales pace might whittle down the days supply to around 62-to-64 days on Apr. 1. Trio charged in plot to kill Patriarca Associated Press PROVIDENCE Three Providence men were charged today with conspiracy to murder Raymond L. S. Patriarca, identified as head of the New England Mafia, and two other men.

The secret indictment, along with five others, were returned Thursday night by the Providence County Grand Jury. In all, the indictments charge conspiracy to murder five men, one of whom actually died. There are seven defendants. Two are being sought. Patriarca is now on trial with four other men in connection with the gangland-style slaying in a Providence grocery store in 1968.

He is accused of conspiracy and being an accessory. The indictment charges that Joseph Schiavone, Guido D'Arezzo and Louis M.
