Boston Sunday Globe September 28, lPfif) Miller Scores Yale Toppled By Connecticut Harvard TD W' fittL If '4 Associated Prtss Connecticut matched Yale's opening punch with a touchdown 53 seconds into the second half. That came on a 68-yard pass play from Rick Robustelli to Vin Clements. Clements was the game's outstanding runner with 87 yards in 27 carries. Robustelli, son of. former All-Pro defensive end Andy Robustelli of the New York Giants, connected on 13 of 27 passes for 197 yards.

Yale lacked thrust until a surprise 93-yard pass from Joe Massey to Bob Milligan in the fourth quarter which brought the score to 19-15. The scoring opportunities for the Elis late in the game fizzled on a missed pass by end Lew Roney and a rushed pass by Massey. Yale scored a safety in the second period when a blocked punt rolled through the end zone. NEW HAVEN Connecticut, favored for the Yankee Conference football title, defeated Yale 19-15 yesterday for its second victory in the 21-game series and Yale's first loss since the opening game of the 1967 season. Connecticut held off a final-period thrust by the 1968 Ivy League co-champions and stopped a final Yale drive on the 11 -yard line as time ran out.

Yale was unable to generate an offense. Its first touchdown came on an 84-yard return of the opening kickoff by Don Martin, a sprinter on the track team. Little Mike Zito, a 165-pound Connecticut halfback, scored two first-period touchdowns on runs of four yards each. The first developed from a Yale fumble, the second on a short Yale punt. ir HARVARD (Continued from Pane I) He caught the ball on his finger tips near the five and was hit instantly.

John Ballantyne picked up two and then Crim threw his body over right guard for the score. Richie Szaro kicked the In the third period Harvard went 55 yards in five plays for its second touchdown. This was on a halfback pass. Bruce Smith, who shaved the Harvard quarterbackmg with Champi, pitched to Horn-blower on the right. Horn-blower stopped, was pressured by the Holy Cross defenders as he released a soft loft to Ballantyne in the right corner of the end zone.

Ballantyne had a step on defender Tom Doyle and cradled the ball into his arms. Holy Cross lost quarterback Mark Mowatt late in the second period with an ankle injury and sophomore Ifowie- Burke over direction of the offense. He couldn't get the Crusader offense moving very effectively either. Only once did Holy Cross put as many as three first downs Jim Mahon and Steve (Paul J. Connell, Photo) Geratowski (right).

ON HIS WAY Harvard's John Ballantyne slithers through the Holy Cross defense for a 25-yard gain. Holy Cross defenders are together. In the first half Holy Cross went 27 ir.m-utes wit limit a l'nt down. Harvard's bread-and-butter play, the power sweep, was more effective with Smith, directing the attack than with the slower Champi. Its good defensive are keyed by Gary whose No.

64 seemed to be involved in every tackle. The Crimson also ball-controlled Holy Cross to death by 77 to 59. Coach John Yovicsin of Harvard wasn't too happy about Harvard's offense, but satisfied with the defense- "We made too many small mistakes on offense," he said. Harvard is again strong defensively and it has a whole horde of quick-footed backs. It looks like a team that is still in the shakedown stage, but one that has ihe potential to make a run at the Ivy-League championship.

PROVIDENCE Brown University began its 84th season of football yesterday with a 21-0 victory over neighboring Rhode Island that saw the winners run up 300 yards on the ground. The victors completed only three of nine passes for 17 yards, as Rhode Island gave up trying to run the ball and filled the air with passes. Rhode Island completed 13 of 41 passes for 185 yards but picked up a mere 36 yards on the ground against Brown's sophomore-laden defense.

Brown's first touchdown almost four minutes after the kickoff came on an 11-yard pass from junior quarterback Bryan Marini to flanker Eric Johnson at the goal line.
