He was the author of, "Man o' War," a biography, of pitching great Walter? Johnson, and "The Endless! Road," a novel about alcoholism. He was founder and editor of the Official Encyclopedia of Football and editor of the revised edition of "The Encyclopedia of Sports A (angling) to (yachting)." He also contributed to revisions to the encyclopedia of baseball and hockey. Mr. Treat contributed articles to such magazines as Esquire, Coronet and Sports Illustrated. He also worked for Sen.

Thomas J. Dodd (D-Ct.) in 1961. He was a former employee of the Washington Daily News, Chicago's American, Washington Post, Baltimore News American and Danbury News-Times. As an early advocate of integration in baseball, he played a role in inducing National League officials to admit Jackie Robinson. He leaves his widow, Gerda; two sons, John of Providence, R.
