This couple dances by 28-foot room in their home, specialize in teaching adult couples ballroom dancini, polka, discotheque routines and even belly dancing. When they find time, they travel to Chicago and as far as California in search of professional trainers who can expand their repertoire. They occasionally compete in dance contests. Stroukoff is from a family of ice skaters his brother, Andy, was the nation's No. 2 ice dancer last year.

Dancing by itself, said Mrs. Stroukoff, isn't guaranteed to save a deteriorating marriage. "Most professional dancers I know who have married their partners eventually split up or at least go out and get another partner," she said. FOND DU LAC, Wis. (AP) Cher-rie Stroukoff, whose husband went from Olympic skating to ballroom dancing, recommends a dance floor for enhancing domestic harmony.

"One couple openly told us it definitely saved their marriage," says Mrs. Stroukoff, who runs the Fondy Academy of Dance with her husband Peter. "Now they have candlelight dinners and go out together again." Stroukoff, a member of the U.S. Olympic team in 1968, and his wife met about five years ago in Tulsa, while both worked at a dance studio there. Stroukoff later managed a Fred As-taire studio franchise in Nashville, Tenn.

Then, three years ago while visiting relatives here, the couple decided to open their own studio. The Stroukoffs, both 30 and parents of a 7-year-old daughter, say dancing is both a hobby and their profession. They tell anyone who asks that it is a main ingredient in a happy household. "Dancing makes you aware of the other person," Mrs. Stroukoff said.

"When dancing, you constantly are thinking of what can make your partner's part easier." "We are both always trying to make the other person look better," Stroukoff said. "Our whole day is spent this way."
