Bill Cosby's "All My Friends on Shore" ranked only 36th and the "CBS Playhouse 90" revival, "Look Homeward Angel," for which people have been clamoring for years, was far back in 49th place. So much for public outcry.

"All in the Family" was on top, as usual, with runner-up Hope followed by "Mod Squad," "Flip Wil-, son" and "Mannix." The Lucie Arnaz pilot was 10th, a good augury. Interestingly enough, CBS plans another all-specials night this Thursday, but there has been change in program plans. Jim Whitmore's "WilL Rogers' USA" still leads off the night, 8-9, but it will be followed by a news special on "Busing," 9-10; and a report by four correspondents on President Nixon's China trip, "Back from China," 10-11. The Smith- sonian Adventure with Walter Schirra, "99 Days to Survival," has been in- definitely postponed. MORNING GLOBE reviews in brief: "Awake and Sing" (Ch.

27 show, in fact, that the movies outscored Carson, 7.9 to 7.8, and had a 37 percent share of audience against Johnny's 32. Dick Cavett was out in left field somewhere with 2.7 and a 10 share. The movie score exactly doubled what Merv Griffin used to do, and it also has a bigger station lineup already, with 190 outlets to Griffin's 140. It looks as if CBS is on the right track, not so much for cutting into Carson, whose average remains about the same, but for finding a new audience to stay up late. As for the rest of the schedule, the Nielsens showed NBC making a comeback to challenge CBS for the top spot, 20.5 to 20.0 for the week ending Feb.

27, with ABC lagging at 17.3. The big impetus for NBC was a multi-special Sunday night that clobbered the opposition, with "Babar Comes to America" finishing 25th, the Ringling circus 12th, the Bob Hope show 2nd, and the Bing Crosby special 7th. attention come out now depends en-rely on your doctor's judgment. If you have any reservations, ask for consultation. What I can tell you is that most doctors agree that a patient is better off having an operation for gallstones while in good health.

Much safer than having to be operated on because of another attack of gallbladder colic, complicated by jaundice and a badly infected gallbladder. (McNaught Syndicate) We want what you want. A dozen others are waiting in the wings, among them Bette Davis as a judge-turned-private eye, Helen Hayes as an author-turned-crime solver, Sally Field as a pioneer bride out West, Barbara Feldon as an actress who marries a judge and inherits a ready-made family, Barbara Bain (with her husband) as part' of an investigating duo, Ruth Buzzi and Michele Lee as bachelor girls sharing an apartment. And, of course, Julie Andrews is assured of her own variety show on ABC, and Barbara Eden has a series commitment from the same network. It looks as if the ladies are sitting pretty. The Nielsen ratings continue to show the CBS late movies making inroads on the talk shows, and it is quite possible now that to insist on COMMENT: An alter ego. A mirror image of myself.

When health hangs in the balance, I'm cantankerous, too. MEDICALETTES Dear Dr. Steincrohn: My doctor says I have osteoarthritis. He offers nothing in treatment except aspirin as needed and keeping mobile. Some time ago you mentioned another kind of arthritis that is "worse" than osteoarthritis.

It occurs in younger persons. What is it? Mrs. O. COMMENT: There are scores of varieties of arthritis. But I'll take a guess that I mentioned rheumatoid arthritis.

This is usually due to some form of systemic infection and may cause deformity if not treated early and ably. Osteoarthritis is the degenerative type that many people over 50 have in some form or other. The only point I'm trying to make here is that aspirin, moderate exercise, heat, are about the only remedies (to control discomfort) we have. Incidentally, are you overweight? Reducing might help especially if some of your osteoarthritis is in your knees. Dear Dr.

Steincrohn: Please help me with my fears and anxiety. I have a cluster of gallstones and have been having indigestion. My doctor advises that I have an operation to remove my gallbladder. I am 42 and am otherwise in good health. I hate even to think of operation.

So far I have had two attacks of colic without any complications. What do you advise? Mrs. E. COMMENT: I think you understand why I can't give you any specific advice. Whether or not it ought to ule, but in their initial outings Miss Wyman had the most intriguing story, one about a boy who developed an ulcer because he feared he might become a homosexual like his father.

Miss Hayward gave us the most WATCH impressive performance in some fiery courtroom pyrotechnics over a fatal quarrel. Miss Arden, our former Miss Brooks, had her old droll way with a line. The trouble was that her of-beat sleuthing just didn't hang together, and the strange hats she affected seem out of place in the '70s. If any of the series fail to make it, hers will probably be the one. Each, incidentally, Jiad a young male assistant to order about and to have occasional set-tos with, which seems to be a growing trend to catch the young crowd.

But these three are just the latest in a line of female hopefuls. A couple of weeks ago Connie Stevens made her pilot bid for stardom as Angie Bianco, a waitress turned fraterni every right with all the fancy contraptions. The rays- the EKGs, the lab tests and the rest of the rigmarole. I want to see my doctor's eyes, as they look me over, to watch his ears twitch as they listen to my complaints, to feel his fingers DR. STEINCROHN as they explore the reasons for my pain.

Yes, I want all this. Does this make me out as a cantankerous patient? Per-' haps I am. Some kind of nonconformist? I refuse to kowtow to nurse and doc-. tor. I refuse to run scared, if you know what I mean.

It's my life. My health. My pain. I pay for the services. I maintain that I expect more than lip service.

I expect more than a routine, superficial contact with the one who makes an unwritten contract to give me back my health. Frankly, now, Dr. Steincrohn, what would you call me? Mrs. N. calendar Children's Museum?" Speaker: Mrs.

If you didn't see the family last night you can get together tonight The Forsyte Saga Tonight at 8 onchaanel 44 By Percy Shain Globe Staff For years and years after Loretta Young had her run the networks turned down all women as potential series leads.

The fiction grew that they couldn't pull in the ratings and that it took a man to get the big numbers. But from the looks of the past weekend's programming and previous production hints all that seems to be changing. Sud- denly, the woods are full of series pilots with female, stars that are making a strong run for next season's schedule. We had three such shows in as many nights Friday through Sunday featuring eminent actresses in colorful charcter leads Susan Hayward as Jessie Fitzgerald, canny attorney, in "Heat of Eve Arden as Hil-degarde Withers, spinster private eye, in "A Very Missing1 and Jane Wyman as Amanda Fallon, a wise pediatrician in "Discovery at 14" on "The Bold Ones." All would make attractive additions to the sched Patient has Dear Dr. Steincrohn: You may as well know it at the outset: I'm a cantankerous patient.

I expect a lot from my doctors. Perhaps too much. But I expect it anyway. When I keep an appointment I made days or weeks beforehand, I expect to be seen on time. Not be kept waiting around like an overlooked piece of furniture.

My time's as valuable as the doctor's. And while waiting, I rebel at the bad taste or seeming disinterest of the nurse and doctor in letting frayed, aged, thumb-marked magazines be my form of entertainment. Once I get by the Great Door of the inner office almost to the tune of Gabriel's horn I resent being shunted off to a cubicle to wait longer until the master of my fate arrives. I want to be seen and heard. I want him to take the time to sit down and really listen.
