The couple hopes the adventure will pay for itself. Hike, a professional photographer, is recording the Odyssey on film, while both be and Tanya hope to tarn their logs into a script The idea of the trip first occurred to Hike when be was a summer student at the University of South Dakota, Vermilion, in 1961.

The Boise, Idaho, native had to wait until be met Tanya, of Utica. N.Y., while both were working in San Francisco. The 5-by-12-foot rubber raft, christened the S.S. Pooshka, is powered by a five-horse outboard. The English import craft the motor, camping gear and other equipment was all donated as advertising.
