He is hopeful it was found a college student, or someone else who would ap- preciate its worth to its owner, rather than by one of the many pan-handlers who frequent Boston Common. If a wino, or another type of derelict, discovered it, he might, destroy it because it couldn't be cased in quickly the poet reasoned.

"Or they maight have thrown it into one of the rubbish barrels which they light fires in during the night keep warm," suggested Neil Canney, Park Department foreman for Boston Common. Waiting by the telephone while Carrol searched has been Carol Kantor, a friend from Cambridge. She received only one telephone call in response to the phone booth sign. That was from a crank. "Please ask anyone who knows where it is to call these numbers," Carroll implored The Globe.

"The are 267-9540 until 5 p.m., 868-5454 evenings." I hope they find it, Carol interjected. "They're David's personal reflections on life. They mean so much to him." Staff Writer i this phone booth, a brown zipper folio containing poetry and music bearing the signature 'David'," begins a plaintive message neatly printed on yellow paper taped to the outside of a telephone booth on Boston Common. "Please return to David Carroll, 26 Flett Belmont, or leave at the Arlington Street Church with your name and address." Then follows a telephone number which the finder is asked to call, and the words, ''Good reward." Pencilled as an afterthought beneath the printing is the reason why Carroll, the owner, affixed the message and several others vlike them in four areas near he Common. "This is years' worth of work.

Please help." "It's more of a personal loss than a monetary loss, he offered last night follwing his fourth exhausting day searching for the briefcase under bushes and in rubbish barrels in the Common and the Public Gardens, questioning Park Department workers, police who patrolled the area last Saturday, when he lost the folder, and the hippies who sit along the walls of the Arlington Street Church. "I thought I was coming home for a nice Summer rest before entering college in the Fall. But by the looks of things, this Summer is going to be pretty exciting." Kathy said her being aboard the Boeing 707 was "lucky. 1 had been booked' on a later flight, but then I thought it would be great to get home as soon as possible." The plane was over- Nevada, when a tall black, wearing a dark suit and felt hat, entered the pilot's cabin and ordered the plane be flown to Cuba. It was the longest hijack flight in U.S. history, covering 2700 miles.
