Brett (D-Quincy) said in a letter to the executive secretary: "I have already stated publicly my opposition to such a move. It would be an unwarranted waste of the taxpayers' money for a project Despite this unfavorable position, the position paper states that the Milton Selec-men have requested a "complete restudy of the proposed Mattapan extension and car barns." The request was made to the Special Commission Relative to the Finances and Operations of the MBTA chaired by Senator James R. Mclntyre (D-Quincy).

Although Sen. Mclntyre was not available for comment yesterday, it was learned that two members of the special commission have M.B.T.A. is to convince the communities in the system that the rapid transit's deficit is already spiraling at a tremendous rate and to complete a project at twice the necessary cost is unreasonable. SUIT Milton selectmen launched their third attack on the MBTA yesterday with a 'position paper, asking the 79 community members of the MBTA Advisory Board to support their claim that the moving of the MBTA storage yards to Mattapan is a "classic example of wasteful investment." The relocation of the Cambridge facility to make way for the John F. Kenne- Gas Line Protest in Needham NEEDHAM The Worcester Gas and Light Co. may be delayed in its race against the weather to get additional pipelines installed, on Greendale avenue. After selectmen approved the installation of new eight-inch lines to supply sufficient pressure fo rto insure several Needham families of heat this Winter, the gas company began putting in the lines last week. Residents now claim the utility has not kept its promise to install the pipes three feet below the surface.

A group of Greendale avenue abutters appeared before Needham selectmen last night demanding that an area adjacent to eight homes on the street be dug up to see whether the pipes are deep enough. In some cases, James Burns, an opponent of the ny had dug only 18 inches. Selectmen pointed out that local ordinances required two feet minimum depth for the laying of pipes. Public Works Supt. Robert McEwen was told by selectmen to tell the company to get the entire area ready for a town inspection to check on the depth of the pipeline in order to satisfy protesting residents.

According to McEwen, the work was being done correctly and a gas company inspector was checking the excavation periodically. Apparently the gas company has had to blast earth while digging for the lines because they ran into ledge in some parts of the area. "A majority of the hijackers appear to be persons of unstable mentality," the report said. Most were either former Cuban refugees or U.S. citizens attempting to escape from legal or other difficulties.

The subcommittee noted that there is some mystery as to the fate of hijackers after they arrive in Cuba. None have been returned for trial in the United States.
