The Boston Globe Wednesday, April 24, 1968 OBITUARIES Bp. Minihan to Preside At Mass for Fr. Ryan HAVERHILL Bishop F. Ryan, head football Jeremiah F. Minihan will at Haverhill High, preside at a requiem Mass uncle of Mike Ryan, for Rev.

James P. Ryan, 65, Red Sox catcher now coach and an former with Philadelphia. He also leaves four sisters, Sr. Marianna, C.S.J., his twin, of St. Mary, Brookline; Sr.

Mary Prudentis, C.S.J. of Sacred Heart, Bradford; Mrs. Arthur Kelley of Somerville and Helen Louise Ryan of Haverhill and five other brothers, Arthur A. of West Harwich, Michael T. and John J.

of Haverhill, Luke J. of Concord and Daniel J. of Bradford. Child's Cries Save Four in Concord Blaze CONCORD -The cries of a frightened child were credited with saving the lives a family of four here at 3:34 this morning. A fire in the home of Mr.

and Mrs. Ted Johnson Annursnac destroyed the electrical wiring in the room of their four-year old daughter causing her night light to go out. The youngster's cries awoke Mrs. Johnson, who found the rei eight-room house full of smoke. She wakened her husband and they grabbed their daughter and one old son and fled.

Fire Chief Thomas Tombeno said the blaze was confined to a sun parlor but the house suffered heavy smoke and water damage. He said the fire was discovered in the nick of time. Another few minutes and the entire $50,000 house would have been ablaze. la The chief said the fire was caused by spontaneous ignition of paint rags left stuffed in a paper bag after a chair refinishing project had been completed in the sunparlor, They Miya Pass By Helen Darcy Longtime Nurse in Hull HULL Miss Helen Darcy, 77, of 15A Rockland a nurse-companion to Mrs. Rose Stone for over 50 years, died Tuesday at Norfok County Hospital in Braintree.

She was born in Galway, Ireland. Miss Darcy leaves a sister, Miss Katherine Liverpool, a nephew, Joseph Curran of Taunton, and four nieces, Anne Froberger and Mrs. Ellen Litz, both of North Scituate: Mrs. Barbarand Shaw, of Brewer, Mrs. Mary Rosano, of Cohasset.

A solemn high requiem Mass will be sung Friday at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's of the Assumption Church. 2 Held for Holdup In Dorchester Two men were arraigned in Dorchester Court today for the $15,000 holdup of the Bradlee-Orbit department store, 725 Morrissey last Saturday morning. Ralph J.

DeLeo, 24, of Pemberton Cambridge, and Michael J. McNamara, 28, of Bay State Back Bay, were held in $50,000 each for a hearing May 7 by Judge Paul H. King. The robbery was staged by a gunman as a telephone repairman and an accomplice who wore a false beard. They held up three workers in the store office and fled in a car.

Pair Hold Up Bar in Roxbury, Flee with $500 Two holdup men, one armed with a shotgun, forced seven patrons to lie face down on the floor at the Colonial Lounge, 981 Tremont Roxbury, at 1:15 this morning. One of the robbers leaped over the bar and tore the drawer out of the cash register. Then the pair fled. The manager, Mrs. Edith Currier, 31, of 231 Geneva Dorchester, said the drawer contained $500.

One of the robbers announced as he entered: "Everyone hit the deck." Based on a Parable of Jesus TN the tenth Chapter of Luke is related that incomparable parable of the Good Samaritan. The principal roles in this little wayside drama are played by a priest, a Levite and "a certain Samaritan." In pointing out the way to gain eternal life Jesus brought into sharp contrast the conduct of the first two men of high conventional virtue and religious authority- one a pillar of the Temple and the other a man dedicated to service in the house of God -with an ostracized stranger in the land. The occasion called imperatively upon the compassion of the three men with its insistent appeal for the succor of the helpless and "half dead" victim of a brutal attack, The first two, of all men, "passed by on the other side." With their actions alone this little article is concerned. Alas, how slowly the leaven of the teaching of Jesus works in the spirit of men, Received with protestations of conversion, acclamations of gladness and hymns of praise, when the demand comes for individual response how many pass by on the other side! How much preventable evil flourishes in the world because to personally help to bring about a remedy would be a vexatious interruption in a settled and comfortable routine of living. How much unnecessary suffering must be endured because so large a proportion of those worthy people who could contribute toward its alleviation are self-absorbed and indifferent or feel that their conventional support of the diffused sympathies of the community selieves them of personal service.

How much of the carking harassments and bitter hardships which fall to the lot of so many to undergo, are unrelieved because so large a number of their Christian brethren like Martha "are careful and troubled about many things," and neglect the "one thing (which) is needful." How tragically imposing is the endless procession of those who pass by on the other side! How graphically the story of the priest and the Levite and its implications confirm our own disillusioning experience in our crusade to end the atrocities of the vivisection laboratories where merciless men and women experiment on live dogs and cats and numberless other animals whose tragic fate is to fall into their cruel hands. Alas, how many good people there are in Christendom who see crying needs for reforms and feel an uneasy urge to intervene but find it more conducive to their peace of mind and comfort to leave the imperative work to others and pass by on the other side? Of no one can it be said that he has sincerely harkened unto the admonition of St. Paul to let that mind be in him which was in Christ Jesus who in the words of Dr. George A. Buttrick, fails "in the crucial test which has its source in that habitual readiness to the heroic, that courageous bent of soul, which is induced by minor braveries day after day." "Such a quality," he adds, "and 'set of character' is eternal life." Those who pass on the other side are not numbered among the band of the spiritually elect, of which "a certain Samaritan" was chosen as exemplar.

Working against an endof-the-month deadline in order to for as much as Federal funds booligible to finance this unique proposal, the five-member authority was closeted late in the afternoon with B.H.A.

Administrator Ellis Ash. Strong support for authority adoption of the proposed tenant-management demonstration program was voiced by Mayor White. "I encourage the Authority to take whatever action may be essential to pursue this program with the Office of Economic Opoprtunity. This represents the sort of innovation which seems to me very promising for the development of public housing in ou reity," White stated in a communication to Jacob Brier, B.H.A. chairman.

The Columbia Point development was selected as the pilot project because, it is representative housing in Boston, an Authority, 1302 spokesman families said. who tenant huge waterfront the high-rise development, 532 are black.
