The program is registered with the Department of Labor, which issues certificates of completion. Gutierrez and Ballesteros are training to be boilermak-ers, Gonzalez and Aranda are learning to be machinists and Labrado is working to become a pipefitter. Aranda is prisi-dent of Local 500. The program provides for an errplove to be trained in a skilled craft and entails four years of work with 8,000 hours on the job and four vears of academic study with thelnter-national Correspondence School.

Employes begin the program as helpers, undergo full-time training, and emerge as qualified journeymen in the particular craft. Two of several major events planned for Homecoming, 1972 at The University of Texas at El Paso have been announced by Dr. Roger Ortiz' homecoming chairman. Singaling the opening of the two-day round of festivities is the traditional Homecoming Banquet honoring this year's Outstanding Ex-Student, to be held on the evening of Oct. 20 at the El Paso Country Club.

Yet another highlight in the round of Homecoming events will be the Oktoberfest during the evening of Oct. 21 cocktails, buffet dinner, music and dancing patterned to a Bavarian theme. Chairman Ortiz, a local dentist, is a 1957 graduate of U.T. El Paso and received his D.D.S. degree in 1951 from The University of Texas Dental School.

He is first vice president of the Ex-Students' Association, former chairman of the dentists division of the Alumni Fund, and is a member of the University's Matrix Society. All former students of U. T. Jack R. McVeigh, manager of the station, located in Executive Center, said Saturday that he was ''glad to hear of the license being granted." He said he had been operating the Spanish language station for some time on program test authority and expected that Ap license would be granted. Hourly newscasts in Spanish, from New York City, are supplied by the Mutual Broadcasting System's Spanish language news network, McVeigh said.
