4) A plush, well-mounted songbag of Shubert hits, sung by Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gorme. A fine finale for "Music Hall." i RADIO-TV cial went to the star. There were all sorts of conferences in London while rehearsal and taping schedules were being met in Hollywood. Finally, Dick was able to interrupt the movie-making long enough to fly home for the final taping. It's not the best, way to put a show together It sure has been a month of unresolved series finales.

"The Invaders" were never caught; "Garrison's Gorillas" were never pardoned; "Lost in Space" was never found; "Batman" kept his hooded secret intact; and Paul Bryan stopped running in "Run For Your Life," with his mysterious disease still intact. What a great deal of commotion to no purpose! Group (Ch. 4) takes another flier in culture when it will preempt "High Chaparral" a week from Sunday for "Back Stage" at the San Francisco Opera," hosted by Cyril Ritchard. Ron Ely must be one actor who is kind of glad his series, "Tarzan," has been cancelled. During its hectic two-year run he broke his nose, three ribs, his left shoulder, dislocated his jaw, sprained his wrist, and repeatedly injured his bare feet.

Incidentally, his very last episode tonight, "Trina," finds him dallying with eight pretty girls whose only excuse for being in the jungle is that one is looking for her uncle. Shades of the old Edgar Rice Burroughs character, who only bothered with crocodiles and tigers, and had Jane to keep house! 20 in 17th and 20th positions. "Gentle Ben." the erstwhile freshman pace-setter, was 25th. Top-rated special of the two-week period ending Mar. 17 was "Dear Mr.

Gable," in fourth place. And Debbie Makes Six" also was successful, winning the 22d spot. But the other featured attractions didn't do too well. The three segments of "Rise and Fall of the Third Reich" came in 38th, 52d, and 56th; "Travels with Charley" had to be content with 49th, Cousteau's "Undersea World" was 67th, the "Now Generation" lagged 82d despite its youth pull, the "Junior Miss Pageant" and Princess Grace's "Monte Carlo: C'est La Rose" tied for 89th, and in the greatest injustice of all, the magnificent Hurok Presents program with three world- famed artists performing at their peak, came in 106th. Back in 112th place, trailed only by a couple of news shows, was ABC's "The Actor." Rowan and Martin's barbs at President Johnson on Monday's "Laugh-In" were embarrassing rather than funny, after the President's noble gesture of the night before.

And what of the "Smothers Brothers" tapes now being rerun that are just loaded wtih cracks at the chief executive? i Next season's schedule is set, but some of the titles aren't. "Mod Squad" has been changed to "Young Detectives," "Tales of the Unknown" to "Journey to the Unknown," and "The Good Guys" to "Two Good Guys." "Here Come the Brides" and "Lucy" also face new monickers, which haven't been "That Julia Child certainly can whip up those egg whites." on Ch. 4. Peggy Fleming, the American darling and Olympic skating champion, has turned professional to sign a long-term contract with NBC. A special will be built around her for next season. After a long period of silence while the other two networks were exploring the military situation with spe-fast-changing political and cials, ABC finally entered the lists Wednesday night with a generally competent half-hour report of the new, nebulous peace hint, which it titled "Vietnam Report: Possibilities of Peace." It preempted "Dream.

which in itself is cause for rejoicing. It is seldom that anyone bows out of television in the blaze of glory that Andy Griffith did this week. His final show, after an illustrious eight-year run, was aired Tuesday here, and on that same day the Nielsen ratings came out, showing the Griffith stanza to be the year's No. 1 show. I can never remember that happening before, though Dick Van Dyke was up there pretty high when he called it quits.

"Griffith" was just a fraction ahead of "Bonanza" with "Dean Martin" third, so they must rank as the bg boys of the year.
