Michael J. Desmond, who died last evening in Newton. For the past year he had been a teacher at St. Sebastian's Day School in Newton. but for a few years previous had been on sick leave.

The solemn funeral mass will be sung Monday morning at 10 o'clock in St. Bernard's Church, West Newton, at which Most Rev. Richard J. Cushing. the Archbishop-elect will preside.

Fr. Edward W. Desmond, assistant at the Holy Name Church, West Roxbury. a brother of the deceased, will officiate at the service, while Fr. John J.

Crane, pastor of St. Bernard's Church. West Newton. will be deacon and Fr. Charles Metrinig, head master of St.

Sebastian School will be the sub-deacon. The eulogy will be preached by Rev. Edward F. Ryan. D.D., pastor of the Holy Name Church, West Roxbury.

Files for Exemptions Eastern Gas and Fuel Associates yesterday filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission at Philadelphia, a notification of registration under the Public Utility Holding Company Act, of 1935, which subjects the association only to the provisions of the act requiring recapitalization. To comply with' these provisions the association wilt later file a plan of recopitalization 'for approval by the commission. In.the interim. the com-mission not having acted on Eastern's application for exemption, Eastern continues to be exempt from all other provisions of the Holding Company Act. Following recapitalization, -Eastern's trustees expect that the association will be completely exempted.

Mrs. Elizabeth Shanahan LYNN, Oct. 5 Mrs. Elizabeth Shanahan, 83, widow of Edward Shanahan and mother of City Solicitor Patrick F. Shanahan, died at her home at 148 Phillips yesterday.

The funeral will be Friday at 9 o'clock at St. Mary's Church with a solemn high mass of requiem, celebrated by one of her 11 grandchildren-Rev. Raymond Shanahan of the Holy Ghost Fathers of Norwalk, Conn. She was a member of Martha Washington Court, Massacnusetts Catholic Order of Foresters. Besides her son Patrick, and her grandson, Fr.

Shanahan. she leaves three other sons, Lyness of the ILynn Police Department; Joseph of the Swampscott Police Department; James A. (Christie) well-known dancing instructor; two daughters, Mrs. Lillian Sonigan and Mary Shanahan, both of Lynn, grandchildren and a great-grandson. Three of grandsons are in the armed services.

Mrs. Seretha Annus FRAMINGHAM', Oct. 5Mrs. Seretha Annis, 80, died yesterday at Miami, where she had made her home in recent years. She was a resident of Saxonville and was the widow of Mark F.

Annis. former Framingham who died In 1935. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Ida M. Kyte, and two grandchildren, Miss Margaret Kyte-and Fernald Neal, all of Saxonvi VilLi.
