bales was a trustee of Hillel Academy of the North Shore and vice-president of in the New England Jewish Na tional Fund Council. A 32d degree Mason, he was member of Mt. Sinai Lodge of Lynn and Aleppo Temple, Boston. Mr. Sales was past president of the Lynn District, Zionist Organization of America and the Jewish National Fund of the North Shore.

He was a member of the board of the Jewish Social Service Agency, Temple Beth El, and the Jewish Community Fed eration of Lynn He had also been active in the Toastmasters Club of Lynn, Lynn Chamber of Commerce Speakers Bureau, and the Lynn Young Men's Chris tian Assn. During World War II he was a member of the National Guard. In 1963, a grandfather of five, he was graduated from the Hebrew Teachers College F. W. Francis at Louis W. Ross, Architect, Dies; Rites Saturday Louis Warren Ross of 206 Lincoln Newton Moston architect lor mere 'i than four decades, died Thurs-1 day in Newton-Wellesley Hos-' pital following a brief illness. A Newton resident since the' early 1920s he was designer of av LOUIS W. ROSS University of Massachusetts, including the Student Union and the Home Economics structures. Mr.

Ross, who retired last year, was graduated from UMass in 1917 and served as an infantry lieutenant with the 166th Regiment of the 42d "Rainbow" Division in France during World War I. He was awarded the Purple Heart with oak leaf cluster. The Harvard Graduate School of Architecture alumnus designed his first building at the Amherst campus of UMass in 1934 with the construction of Thatcher Hall. He also waxdesigner of edifices in Winchester, Needham, Northampton and. Newton.

He was a Summer resident of Rockport for the past 10 years. Mr. Ross was a member 01 Hiram Lodge of Masons in Arlington, where he was born, and Phi Sigma Kappa Fraternity and the American Institute of Architects. He leaves a wife, Dorothy M. (Pickett) Ross; a son, Warren R.

Ross of Framingham; a daughter, Mrs. Sally L. Pesta- lozzi of Carlisle; a sister, Mrs. B. Ross Wilkins of Ashland, N.H., and seven grandchildren.
