(UPI)Shirley Jackson, 46, known author of mystery stories and children's books, died at her home Sunday, apparently from a heart attack. In private life she was the wife of Stanley E. Hyman, a member the Bennington College faculty.

She also left four children and her parents. In accordance with her wishes, funeral services will be omitted. A native of San Francisco, she began her writing career 1948 with publication of "The Road Through the Wall." More recently she won critical acclaim for "The Bird's "The Sun Dial," "The Haunting of Hill House" and "We Have Always Lived in the Castle." The later reportedly will be staged soon on Broadway.
