She later toured the United States and Canada, and in 1925 trained the chorus for the Boston Civic Opera Co. Mrs. Drew was supervisor of music in Watertown elementary schools from 1924 to 1950, during which time she taught voice at the Boston Conservatory of Music. She leaves a son, John L. Drew of St.

Louis, and three grandchildren. Joseph F. Silva, Ex-Cabin Boy, Founded Firm Joseph F. Silva ran away from his native Azores to sail before the mast as a cabin boy when he was 8. Twice he was shipwrecked, once for two months.

He died Sunday at the age of 88. Mr. Silva was a founder of the Silva Brothers Awning Co. of Cambridge, now operated by mebers of his family as the Silva Tent and Awning Co. It was a business he stepped into after leaving the sea where he learned the craft of sailmaking.

Mr. Silva resided at 87 Amory Cambridge. He was retired. He was a member the New England Tent and Awning Manufacturers Assn. and an honorary life member Canvas Products Assn.

International. Surviving are three sons, Herbert of North Reading, Joseph of Cambridge and Thomas of Weaverville, N.C.; five daughters, Mrs, Helen Welch of Woburn, Mrs. Marion Moakley, of Cambridge, Mrs. Louise Li nehan of Bedford, Mrs. Flor ence Bailey if Tamps, and Mrs.

The gunman was killed when his gun went off during the struggle. He retired from the force two years later. During his retirement, he became an authority on antiques, particularly glassware, and numismatics (the study of coins).
