Using 21,18 and 14 carat gold, Miss Matsukata broke the mold of conventional design and won honorable mention for her work. A native of Japan, she has always loved the jewels identified with her native land. The Boston Museum School Is the only one in the country where professionals may study, Mrs.

Brown points out. She herself began studying art as part of a career as a physical therapist. She was caught up in the beauty of work with jewels and precious metals, and for the past 20 years has been a professional designer. Both she and Miss Matsukata have exhibited at the Boston Arts Festival, and Mrs. Brown's work has been displayed at the museum itself.

Sixty freshmen a week and an advanced class of 22 students daily study at the Museum School under two instructors with two fifth-year students assisting. But there is no real outlet here for our work," says Mrs. Brown, who cites Denmark's government sponsored shop as a model for America.
