3 xue odaivn Sunday Giube Iiaich li, lwo 2 Charged In Sale of Pep Pills By WILLIAM BUCHANAN State and Boston police and Inspectors from the Massachu-getts Board of Pharmacy re vealed Saturday the crack ft I down on a South End opera tion that had been providing narcotics to youths from the 1 PLAZA suop entire Boston area. Complaints were granted in Boston Municipal court against a physician and a registered pharmacist who occupied the same building in the South End. They were ordered to appear in court Wednesday to face arraignment on charges stemming rfom violation of the narcotic and harmful drug laws. Police first learned of the operation from an 18-year-old Marlboro youth who lingered near death for several days after taking an overdose of narcotics purchased at the store. The youth is still confined to the hospital and is being treated for narcotics addiction.

According to authorities, the physician wrote a large number of prescriptions for narcotics without first giving the applicant a physical examination and then failed to provide any-names, addresses or ages on the prescription form. The youths told police the doctor charged them $5 for the prescription and told them to see the pharmacist in the same building where for $5 they received 30 "pep pills." "We never had any trouble getting a prescription or picking up the drugs," a 20-year-old East Boston youth said. "The whole deal never took more five minutes and those pills would make us feel like we were drunk, but we'd never get sick." Another youth admitted he was now dependent on the drugs. Det. Thomas Mitchell of the Boston Police Narcotics Squad said he made three separate trips to the physician and on each occasion bought narcotics -one a package of 30 Codeine pills.

Some of the youths told police they made eight 'or nine since August, each time paying the doctor $5 for the prescription from which their named was omitted. Police seized more than 100 illegal prescriptions. One police official said it was the largest "pep pill" operation in the city. EDWARD DEEGAN 3 Quizzed In Chelsea ft- I i ii i .4. .1 4 i I if wum.
