Staples, of 12 Carter was born in Searsport, Me. He came to Lynn in 1918, taking a leading role in many civic or-ganizations. He was a former chairman of the industrial committee of Lynn's Chamber of Commerce; former president of the city's Community Fund drive; a trustee and founder of Camp a Girl Scout camp; former treasurer and trustee of the Central Congregational Church; charter member ana iPast president of the Lynn Lion's Club and a member of the city's Cancer Assn. He was also a member or the Aleppo Temple, Boston; Carmel Lodge, A.F. A.M., Lynn; past patron of Regis Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star; past district deputy gov ernor of Massachusetts Lions, District 33N, and past president of Double-Or-Nothing Club, Swampscott.

He leaves a wife, Blanche (Harris); two daughters, Mrs. Ruth S. Moses of Needham and Mrs. Jeanne L. Malcomson of Lansdale, and five grandchildren.
