Alpert Lops Off 18 Providence To Hub Trains The New Haven Railroad rrotinues slashing local commuter and shopper passenger service on Monday, when the Boston-to Providence schedule will be cut by one-third. The Interstate Commerce Commission yesterday authorised dropping 18 of 58 local rassenger trains, two days after the Old Colony division died. Trains to be cut on the Boston-Providence main line serve Canton Junction, Sharon, East Foxboro, Mansfield, Attleboro and Pawtucket-Central Falls, R.I., a New Haven official said last night. The ICC authorization was based on demonstrable operating losses for the trains involved, which operate at hours and have run In the red for three years.
