Cartman, MeKWBN VISITS THE BANK. Prof. MoEwen. the great hvnnotlat and mind reader, walked Into a local bank yesterday afternoon. When he was Jocularly asked If he could open the sate.

In a few moments Mr. Mo Ewen by his wonderful mind reading gift had gona through ths three combinations to the araaaement of the officials of ths hank. Last night's performance at Orme's Hall was marked with wonderfnl hypnotic achievement, and mind reading work as brilliant and perplexing. In a book of 1.000 pages he discovered, blind-fold, a word aeleeted by C. W.

Mitchell. Ha pel led the name of an Individual merely thought of by J. R. Retd of tha Sun Life. Again blindfold and on tha platform, a pin was produced la ona part ot ths audience and a pleoe of paper in another.

Some Great Fighting was Done Last Men. Ottawa Men and Outsiders" Took Part. Knockouts Were Reyistere J. Spectators Enjoyed Themselves, There was tome great boxing last night at the Ottawa AmaUur Athletic Club. The occasion was the opening of the club a two nights boxing tournament.

ad loo pari Aratlasa exhibition of dstlc skll Not only aas Ottawa well ivprraenled in the bouts, but there- were men on hsnl from Toronto and 1'olerboro'. Every oontest was for krrtio. Talk about nrofeealonal fight nig. but Juuging from the way things went the auiuteur article la about a good as can be got. The couu-sis were for three rounds each, and thrre was nothing slow in proceedings.

Tne ut-taa Amateur AlhhMIc Club seems to make a stei-la1ty of nutting up good amateur boxing. Last year the club conducted the contests for the Cana dlan boxing championships, and made the matter a success in every way. Although there is really no question of championships at stake this time, the work done last night could hardly have bee, surpassed In any amateur boxing tournament. The stectalors who wit-, nested the fighting were a well satis-lied lot. A leaner attendance of people was certainly warranted.

eleven bouts In all were put on and to show how earnestly some of the combatants mixed things up with one another It Is only necessary 10 state that there were two knockouts. The referee was Chas. Ohlttv of Montreal, and the Judges F. C. Chlttlck of the Ottawa Amateur AUUettc Club and Frank Taylor of the Capital Amateur Athletic Association.

If three rounds were not sufficient for the officials to reach a decision upon, a fourth round could be allowed, but only In one Instance was this necessary. Referee Cbitty did his business well. Summary of Results. Following Is a summary of the re sult of each bout .115 Pound Class. Hugh Powers of the Ottawa Amateur Athletic -Club defeated Dug Booth of Hufl In two rounds.

John Horan of the Ottawa Amateur Athletic Club defeated Richard Ashton of Montreal. US Pound Class. William Waller of the Montreal Am ateur Athletic Association defeated P. J. Carroll of Peterboro'.

lit Pound MrBriartr of Montreal defeated Oeorge Clarke of Ottawa In ona round. Powers Did Well. The bout between Hugh Powers and Dug Booth was Interesting while It Issted. Both young fellows showea considerable cleverness powers had the advantage of being the taller, but Booth showed considerable pluck Pow ers' long reach enabled blm to get In lota of tjlows and to ward off Boom rushes. There was lots ot steam behind Powers' blows.

He managed to floor his opponent onoe in tne nrst round. In the second round he started In. to bring matters to a Bnlsh and pounded Booth practically at will. Booth got very groggy and In a llttla over a mlnute-hs was unable to con tinue and Powers wss declared winner. Powers Is a brother of jona Powers of the Capital lacrosss team.

Clever John Jtoran. Horan, of Ottawa, showed) a decided amount of cooinesa and cleverness In bss bout with Richard Ashton of Montreal. This was one of tha best con- teats ot the lot. Both men wars pretty well matched aa regards else and weight. Horan's left hand waa a won der and did surprising work.

Ashton started out earnestly, but ho could not go hear bis man w-itlwxar running up agaloxt a hard left hand Jan. Horan took things very coolly. Not only did he send In some stiff punches hut ha saved nlmeeif from getting blowa by his clever ducking and blocking. He was clearly the more aclenced man. Ashton kept right at business to the finish chough, and put up asp fcanl an argument as possible.

His nose suffer' ed considerably from Its contact with Horan-. left hand. Horan-. right hand also, and his footwork, were great fac- jT.Tb'.rr"!- ahould the bout. The decision was popular.

A Red Hot Bout, -The -contest bet-ween Weller of Mon. rattling red-hot affair. Weller Is of a tall thlnntsh build while Carroll I rather elocky. Temple Didn't Last Long. It looked as If Temple of Toronto and Sink of Montreal would make matters Interesting, and they did Just for about a mlauta Strike had a very peculiar ring position, which at Srat seemear to be more useless than anything elsa but It was a winner. He both tripped his msn and hit below the belt. Referee Chlty would not tolerate 'these offences and before tha time of the first round was up.

he gave ths bout to Austin. 1 It Was Easy For McBrlary. Considerable sinusement wss -afforded In ths bout between McJBiiarty. of Montreal, and Geo. Clarke, of Ottawa.

Both are strapping young fellows. Mc-Brlarty's work was of a whirlwind order. He lost no time In -getting after fa Is man and at close quarters ha showed how he could handle bis fists. Clsrke avoided a lot of punishment by sprinting around tha ring. Ha never even onoe alt McBiiarty and, made praollcally ao effort to land a blow.
