Fairburn and his company were awarded the Gold Medal of the American Museum of Safety in 1914 in recognition of Kis achievement in eliminating the dangerous match, and his work was commended by President Taft. During World War I Fairburn developed domestic sources of chlorate of potash for use by the munitions and match industries after supplies from Germany had been cut oft. Before he was 25, Fairburn designed and built the first all-steel American freighter as general superintendent of the Bath Iron Works.

He later built vessels for James J. Hill and E. H. Harriman, leading industrialists. In 1909 Fairburn joined the Diamond Match Company at the request of Edward R.

Stettinius then president, and was given the Dr. Louis Arkin Funeral services for Dr. Louis Arkin, 70, nose and throat specialist of Boston and Sharon, who died Wednesday, will be held today at Temple Israel Meeting House at 11 a. m. Rev.

About that time he took over the Boston Braves, when they were floundering in the league cellar, and helped build the team into the valuable property it is today. He was also a leader in bringing Sunday baseball to Boston. In 1935, when horse racing was legalized In Massachusetts. Mr. Adams and a group of associates built Suffolk Downs.

Two years ago he and his associates sold the track for $3,200,000. He resigned as treasurer of the First National Stores in 1944, but remained as director. The only other enterprise in which he was recently connected was Adams-Erickson, radio distributors, of which he was a founder and director. He leaves a wife, one son, Weston Adams, present head of the Bruins; a brother. A.
