"Utile Fugitive" at the txeter Theatre is one ot the most Intriguing Alms of the year. The plot is as simple as a enna DooK the story itseii couia oe 101a in a couple of sentences.

But the sensitivity ot the camera, the studies of uninhibited youngsters as shown through their everyday life as well as during their unauthorized visit to Coney Island, is the kind of cinema fare suited to people who demand their motion pictures off the beaten patn ox entertainment. If you want a plot and action in films, then "Little Fugitive" is not for you. But if you like experimental films, and if you enjoy the interplay of photography and characterization, with each new sequence the sort of pic-turc-story you see in the lay-outs of fashionable magazines, then "Little Fugitive" will give satisfaction and pleasure. Seven year old Richie Andrusco is the small hero of "Little Fugitive." He is the kind of child we all have met. He is boyish, imita live, tun or iun.

cut ne can wnine when things go wrong and be a dreadful pest. It is his older brother who plays the joke on little Joey and causes the frightened seven-year-old to run away to Coney Island, financed by the $6 his mother had left for groceries. A boy like Joey can have a time for himself at Coney with $6 and a smart child can And out how to earn extra nickels and dir.ics through discarded pop bottles. -So "Little Fugitive" takes th child from onj concession to the next, with plenty of time spent with the pony ride man, remarkably well played 'by Jay Williams. I What wonderfully expressive i moments the cameramen have captured: the thrill and magic and eritement a boy with all Coney Island to choose from.

There are sad moments, too. wh'n he remembers his older brother. whom he believes dead. But tne unhaDDiness is chased away by tho marvels of the ponies and the thrill of batting baseballs or nun inn hull at various stationary ob jects, with the idea of getting small Drizes. "Little Fugitive" has won European awards for its ingenuity warmth and unusually fine cam erawork, antl it is one of those I "little" films that contain a lot 'more greatness than appears on its surface How much acting is done by the two boys in the film, and how imuch their appeal depends on the nhotoeraDhv is difficult to assess.

Anyway. "Little Fugitive" in fun if yor like kids and enjoy superb camerawork. Shubert Box Office Closes Today During Lee Shubert Services The Box Office of th; Shubert Theater, Tremont will be closed todav from 1 to 3 p. during services for Lee Shubert in New York. Shubert.
