YV. i Iprida, Esther Rclle, who appears as Florida Evans in "Good Times," seen Tuesday evenings from 8:00 to 8:30 on Channels 11-13, prefers not to think of herself as a She'd rather be thought of as just another person. A native of Pompano Beach, Esther's the ninth of 18 children and has two sisters who are active in the acting profession. Her older sister, noted actress Estelle Evans, appeared in such films as "To Kill A Mockingbird." Younger sister Rosanna Carter is following in Miss Rolle's footsteps as a member of the famed Negro Ensemble of New York. The talented star (excuse me, Miss Rolle!) of "Good Times" studied journalism for several years and turned to acting when a professor having seen her enact some original material written by a fellow student -said she should be performing instead of writing.

When asked if she still pursued her writing endeavors, Esther replied; "Now I use it for its therapeutic values. When I'm frustrated or angry. or when I'm sad. I'm not much of a 'screamer'. "Are there any changes coming up in the show later this year?" "I'd like to see a more rounded life for the women on the show." Esther thought for a moment and continued, "We have no real purpose except to serve the men, and this doesn't make a rounded person.

I'd really like to see some real problems, problems just like everybody else's. Let O. Page 5 theRobesoniah. Sunday, December 8, 1974 me deal with something more than making a meal." When she was asked to play the role of Florida in "Maude," Esther's reply to the. producer was, "I will not go to Hollywood to be a "black maid." He said, 'We're not looking for a maid, we're looking for a strong So, I took it because I've got a lot to say about the difference between a real maid and the empty-headed person Hollywood has always pretended she was.

"I promised myself a long time ago that if I ever got in the position to do anything about it, there would come a day when blacks could look at a movie or TV show, see a black domestic woman and not come away with their heads down. There's nothing wrong with being a domestic. There's nothing wrong with doing what you are equipped to do, and I felt we'd all be richer if we knew who she is. Take your hat off to her. she's a great woman." bring your prescription to Pine Street inc.
