He succeeds Charles Chandler. Other officers elected were Charles Chandler, vice chairman; M. R. Gearhart, secretary, and Paul D. Zug, treasurer.

Col. Mathews immediately set up committees to investigate pres ent facilities and resources which will make possible expansion and progress of various phases of the local corps' program. The Youth Work Committee is composed of Mrs. John Hoy, Miss Ann Mathews and Mrs. Captain Ditmer.

Appointed to the Build ing and Property Committee were M. R. Gearhart, Paul D. Zug and Captain Ditmer. Prof.

C. W. Fink reported on the work of the Social Service classes at Dickinson College and the service rendered by this group to the Salvation Army was re viewed by the board. The dates set for the Salvation Army's annual Maintenance Fund Campaign are from April 22 to May 4. Kell, Mechanicsburg, E. D. 4, after his car was alleged to have col lided headon with another car at Louther and Bedford streets. Police said Kell was driving west on Louther street on the wrong side of the thoroughfare and collided with a car driven by Donald Lee Orth, 149 West Louther street. The charge was preferred before Justice of the Peace William Dosh.

Awarded DSC Capt. J. Charles E. Steck, of South Hanover street, has been awarded the Distinguished Service Cross, ranking next to the Con gressional Medal of Honor, the War Department announced. Capt.

Steck was given the award for "extraordinary heroism" while leading a successful attack against superior enemy forces last February 25 at Kaltonhaus, France. The War Department announced that Capt. Steck, commander of Company of the 242nd Infantry Regiment, 42nd Rainbow Division, Seventh Army, was attacked by a larger German force. The citation states in part: "Owing to heavy losses, the com pany was considerably under strength, its thin defensive line stretched to the breaking point. Ralph Plack, 330 Hummel street, has been honorably discharged from the Army at In diantown Gap Military Reservation after three years' service. A member of Company 410th Infantry Regiment, of the 103rd Division of the Seventh Army, since Day, he has been with the 39th Infantry of the Ninth Division of the Army of Occupation in Germany. His decorations include the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Bronze Star, the Good Conduct Medal, the ETA Ribbon with three battle stars, and the Presidential Unit Citation. A graduate of John Harris High School, Pvt. Plack was attending West Nottingham Academy when he entered the service.
