The late John Barry held the title for many years and finally relinquished it to the younger generation in 1921 when Weaver Adams and Harold Morton played their first match. Adams and Morton handed the title back and forth until it finally rested with Morton, who was champion when ce died in an accident in 1939.

MSCA officials then cot to' gether with other state groups and formed NECA for the pur pose of holding regular tourna ments for the New England crown. Milton Kagan won the first of these in 1941. Adams did not compete. But the next year Adams won and he repeated in 1945, '47, '48, and '49. Summer visitor Anthony Santasiere.

Dr. Orest Popovych, now in New Jersey, dominated the 1957 and '58 tournaments. Last year, in Hartford, Lawrence Noderer, Connecticut, a semi-dark horse, edged the field.

Let us not forget indestructible Harlow Daly, Sanford, who won a New England tournament in 1908. He promises to be in Providence when the boys check in at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 1.
