How all that is brought about is complicated and wildly funny. "No Time for Sergeants" has been ingeniously set by Peter Larkin. He has created cheerless l.i. DarracKs, sterile offices, a purple dance hall, a full-scale bomber which takes-ofT and wings across the sky (with one side conveniently peeled oft so the audience can see inside) and a moodv corner of the forest primeval.

The scenery, in a word, is spectacular. James Hoiden plays Will with a loving affection. Tall," curly-headed and gangling, he is every inch the Georgia cracker: and his sense of timing is perfect. As Ben, Louis Beachner is a combination of Andy Hardy and Roddv Mc Dowell on his way to "Compul sion." Myron McCormick, as the harassed Sergeant King is proper ly set-upon and sympathetic. Cliff Hall is excellent as a general with too many draftees in his hair.

Although the cast has changed, the fun has not. "Sergeants" is a farce-comedy linked together by comic strip episodes which are achingly hilarious.1 Sketched in broad lines, most of the characters are caricatures, but Will btockdale is certainly not. When the play catches on its cliches, Will is there to see it through, an innocent yokel whose inbred ignorance is touched with gregarious charm.

Will likes people and he takes them as he finds them. Although his good-nature is sorely put upon by a yawping bunch of fellow draftees, Will is largely unaware. As slow to anger as to understand, urVlon Vl TVtaccBna flnallir ante through, he acts with his fists, Doggedly loyal. Will is be. friended by a horn-rimmed slip named Ben whitledge.

The plot concerns the efforts largely fu tile, persistently amusing of one harried sergeant to transfer Will and Ben to another outfit. To keep Will out of trouble the sergeant gives him the enviable job of cleaning the latrine, a permanent placement. Delighted with the prospect of service. Will rigs ud a line of hoppers so thev snao a salute as the Colonel passes through on inspection. With and without Ben.

Will skips from one lunatic inspiration to another until the Air Force and the Infantry spin around his bright stupidities. The play reaches a peak of hilarity when the two friends are blasted from the tail of a bomber by a test-explosion in the desert. They parachute to earth and, through Will's devising, earn medals and freedom from the STAGE IN TOWN For AMUSEMENTS at vniuuntN nnv. With ahiiitc til AT MAT CMnueW "80days Mrt m.j a Todd 10 S.I. Among the 37 persons named in the report, two a husband and wife were said by the commission to have severed their relationship with the Communist Partv last March. They are named as Geoffrey Warner White of 8 Irwin Roxbury, and Ann Levine White During 1948 and 1949, White was a full-time employee of the Communist Party in Massachusetts, a delegate to district conventions held in Otisfleld Hall, Roxbury in January and March of 1957, and previously under indictment by a Federal grand iurv for violation nt the Smith Act.

The indictment later was dismissed. He left the party shortly after the local convention last March, according to the commission. His wife, who severed her afflii. ation at the same time, according to the report, also attended district Communist Party conventions in Roxbury and was active in several front groups, the report said. The report stated that the delegates from this district elected to attend the Communist Party convention in New York in February, 1957, included Michael Russo.

Frances Hood, Robert Goodwin, Sidney Lipshires, and Schirmer. It was then stated that those who actually attended the New York session from Massachusetts were Benjamin Landey of Sharon, Robert Goodwin of Lynn, Philip Koritz of Mattanan. There was considerable criti-cism by several in the Massachusetts delegation concerning activities of the national party group, and besides Mr. and Mrs.
