WEDNESDAY, APRIL «, 1958 BLTTHEVILLE (ARK.) COURIER NEWS PAGE OTB Bandung Meeting to Launch Red China's 'Second Front' By EDWARD \«. KENNEDY NBA Special Correspondent BANDUNG, Indonesia — (NEA) — Here is where communism makes its next big move in Asia. At the Afro-Asian Conference beginning here 'April 18, the Reds challenge the unin vited guest — the Western free world. The Peiping press and radio are already preparing the \yay for the big propaganda push to be staged by Foreign Minister Chou En-lai, who heads the delegation from Red China. Bandung is Red China's iccond front against democracy. Just as Quemoy and Matsu are the first front in the hot war against Nationalist China and its democratic allies, so Bandung is the second front in a cold war to gain allie* among 29 Asian and African countries Invited to an historic conference. Prime Ministers, Foreign Ministers and outstanding diplomats of Afro-Asian nations representing 1,400,000,000 people are gathering for the opening session in this colorful plateau city, famed for its handsome mosques, colleges and government buildings. Here amid lush evidences of ousted Dutch colonialism the inferiority complex of the "anti-colonial" countries will form a sounding board for Asiatic communism's siren song. The most that the delegates of free countries attending can hope to accomplish is to form a united front and try to expose the Red propaganda. Gen. aCrlos Romulo and Ambassador Felino Neri of the Philippines will be the most effective counter-attackers. They can point to the Philippines as free, prosperous and happy after having been weaned to strength and guided to independence by the "warmongering Yankees" of Red propaganda. Turkey, Pakistan and Thailand are other pro-western countries expected to join the fight. The prime objective is the minds of 500,000,000 people still largely un committed in the cold war. Japan's role will be watched closely to see how far her policy of coexistence with communism .has drifted. Japan is sending Masayuki Tani, foreign office advisor, as a last-hour substitute for Foreign Minister Mamoru Shigemitsu. Tani is believed,by some well-informed Asiatic sources to be the "real" foreign minister of Japan and the significance of this i* that he has reportedly maintained underground contact with the Chinese Communist for more than two years. He is believed to be the spearhead of Premier Ichiro Hato- yama's policy of friendliness with the democracies — plus trade with the Communists. The much-debated invitation to Japan indicates that in the minds of the invitation committee—the so-called "Colombo Powers" — Japan is no longer the "orphan of Asia." Hosts for the meeting: are Indonesia, Pakistan, Ceylon, Burma and India. They differed sharply over Box Office Opens 6:45 Show Starts 7:00 p. m. Admission 15c & 35e At All Times WED., & THURS.
