The request was approved by the State Department, but rejected by Defense and CIA on the grounds that Israel need the weapons. Attorney general nixes investigation of Ford WASHINGTON (UPI) Attorney General Edward Levi Wednesday turned down congressional requests that he investigate allegations that President Ford helped block a House committee Watergate investigation in 1972. Levi said the Justice Department reviewed existing evidence and found no basis for questioning testimony at his vice presidential confirmation hearings that he did not act at the behest of the White House. the Department of Justice declines to conduct a further, formal investigation of its own or to request the special prosecutor to conduct a further Levi said in a statement.

Earlier in the day, at a news conference, the President stood by his 1973 testimony that he recalled no White House overtures to block a House Banking Committee investigation of Watergate. And he said he did not consider his actions as House Republican leader at the time to constitute interference with the inquiry. decision removed the last remaining threat of an investigation of Ford within the final two weeks of his campaign against Jimmy Carter. Special Watergate Prosecutor Charles Ruff last week announced he found no evidence supporting allegations that Ford violated campaign finance laws in his 1972 campaign for reelection to his House seat. Thursday, October 21, 1976 31 Music league Cavalcade of Bands reviewed at meeting A report on the recent Boyertown Cavalcade of Bands presented by Arlan Saylor, coordinator, highlighted the October meeting of the Boyertown Area Schools Music League. He paid special tribute to the Boyertown Alumni Band, the only such organization he knows of, which gave a memorable performance along with the other bands and marching units.

Saylor said since that success he has learned of interest in other school districts which hope to start similar bands. Boyertown High will compete for the 12th consecutive year at the annual Parade of Champions at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 30 in Philadelphia Civic Center, sponsored by the Cardinal Dougherty High School Band. Boyertown spectator buses will leave 5 p.m. that day from the band room parking lot, instead of from the gym parking lot as in previous years.

Already six charter buses are scheduled and more than 375 parents and friends from Boyertown plan to see the competion, it was reported at the league meeting. The Pep Band from Junior High West, directed by Donald Kuszyk, performed at the meeting, attended by 65 persons. The league voted to purchase two TAP-rhythm machines, one for Junior High East and one for West, which will be used for instruction in instrumental, choral and string rhythms. The action was taken at the request of John Huggens, music teacher at Junior High West. The league also voted to purchase two sabres and a megaphone, as requested by Kuszyk.

Bylaws of the league will be changed to make the membership year coincide with the school year rather than the calendar year. It was noted that the senior high band, the two junior high bands and the alumni band will march in the Boyertown- Gilbertsville Halloween Parade Oct. 28. A refreshment stand to benefit the uniform fund will be set up at the home of Mildred Boughter, 212 E. Philadelphia during the parade.

The next meeting will be Nov. 4 in the dining room of the high school. Lions meet tonight The Lions Club of Boyertown will invite wives of members to a meeting at 6:30 tonight in the Boyer Towne Inn.
