Lord Baden-Powell, a lineal descendant of Captain John Smith, English colonist whose life was saved by Pocohantas, had been in precarious health for several years. He contracted lumbago and bron-s chitis while traveling in Africa in 1938 and was invalided to England. He returned to Kenya last year.

In 1937 Baden-Powell exhorted 26,000 youths assembled at. their Jamboree in London "to carry on and develop friendship among themselves" so that they might help to bring an "era of peace and good will among men."
