Miles said Jordan has been disciplined by himself and the team. "He's back on board, doing the right things," the Tigers' first-year coach said. "We reviewed that situation very thoroughly. We looked at his background and really feel like it's an isolated incident and not one that will repeat itself." The Scorpions finished 1-9 and winless (0-8) in District 2-4A playing a varsity schedule for the first time a year ago. But second-year coach Robert Morales said this week that things are looking up at the school. "There's only one way for us to go," Morales said when told of his team's ranking. "We were just really, really young and inexperienced last year. These kids have never had a weight program and we feel like we've had a great offseasoa" Although Morales will have seniors at his disposal for the first time, it's a relatively small group with just 15.

Morales has better numbers throughout the program, however, expecting 140 to show up for two-a-days next month, including 40 varsity players. That has him setting goals high. "Realistically, we're hoping to come out with a winning record this year," Morales said, "and hopefully get to the playoffs. We feel like we can be competitive in our district." Horizon will look toward junior quarterback Franky Baquera and junior tailback Israel Delgado on offense. Junior defensive end Anthony Macias, senior defensive tackle Greg Aguilar and senior outside linebacker Edgar Estrada (5-8, 180), last year's leading tackier with 110 stops, will attempt to get things squared away on defense.

A road he got back on with the Titans' first training camp workout Friday in Nashville. There always is a chance, however. Especially when you consider Rodriguez's work ethic, his football instincts, and his intelligence.

"He's done a nice job," said Tennessee's assistant head coachlinebackers coach, Dave McGinnis, the former head coach of the Arizona Cardinals who has coached, among others, Hall-of-Famer Mike Singletary. Led by one of the league's best offensive units, the Patriots notched an uneven 2-1 victory against Central Florida to earn their first playoff victory in the Premier Development League. The win at Patriots Stadium advanced El Paso (12-3-2) to today's Southern Conference finals against Laredo (10-7-0), which upset Southeast Conference champ Cocoa Expos (11-4-2) earlier in the evening. "Our team is again on the right track," Patriots head coach Jesus Manuel Enriquez said. "We had an excellent game, and I think that if we play the same way we did (Friday), we'll win." Indeed, the Patriots appeared the aggressor Friday despite a size disadvantage.

Players like Miguel Irrosa had the Kraze (8-7-2) reeling, and the forward was a key contributor on both scores. The first came in the 31st minute. Aboytes El Paso Times The Patriots' Laurenco Andrade, left, battled for the ball Friday with Central Florida's David Benn, center. By Matthew Aguilar El Paso Times When patrons of the Anthony Country Club finish the nine holes, the word most often used to describe the course is tricky.

"The greens are real small and. if you miss the pins five feet to the left or five feet to the right, you're off the green and you're going to have a difficult chip shot," local golfer Armando Martinez said. "And the greens are real firm, so you've got to play for it to roll to release and if you don't, you're past it. "It's so tricky." Martinez managed to beat the course and match-play opponent Bobby Walker Friday in the 60th annual Anthony Country Club Invitational. But even Martinez admits you never know what the next day holds on an unpredictable course like Anthony.

Championship flights tee off again at 1:30 p.m. today. Tournament chairman Jim Welshimer said the course's unpredictability is one of the draws of the Anthony Invitational. "It's a very short course 5,800 yards, which compares to 6,500 to 7,000 everywhere else," he said. "Our course is a lot narrower.

It's a Bermuda grass course, which means the ball rests down in the rough. They arc very firm, small greens. It's hard to get the club on the ball to where it stops next to the hole. It rolls a lot and the fairways are very narrow. And you have a lot of trees in the rough." Welshimer said the scores over the last two days are typical of the tourney.

"The high qualifier (Thursday) was 4 over par," he said. "The medalist was 2 under par. There's a six stroke spread for 15 players. That's pretty tight." Martinez said he made the putts he had to make Friday. "I'm not making those extra ones, but I'm making enough putts to keep me in there." he said.

"There were times when he could'vc gotten back to one down, two down. But I made the putt to stay three, four up. He didn't beat me one hole today." Martinez hopes his good luck stays the same on what Welshimer says is a "thinking course." "The person I have to play (Brian Schuster) (is strong), but, hey, that's golf," he said. Larrosa came through again in the 56th minute. "I was able to advance through two defenders, and after I cleared them I pretty much did the same thing as the first one," Larossa said through an interpreter. This time it was Laurenco Andrade on the end of Larrosa's pass, and he made it 2-0 by flanking the goal then launching a shot past the goalkeeper, who had come out to contest him. The Kraze's lone goal came in the 90th minute on a penalty kick by Danny Robertson. El Paso returns to Patriots Stadium at 8:30 p.m.
