Four favorites won and two other placed this afternoon to raise the percentage for the meeting to something like normal figures. Ira Ilanford made both classes of the betting public happy, as he booted in two favorites and one long shot, to gain a temporary tie with Jimmy Stout for the meeting's riding honors.

But Stout came back with a win aboard Go Quick, to step ahead again, 12 to 11, before the program closed. Air Line Pays $50.60 The youngest of the riding Han-fords started with a grand flourish, when he brought home Mrs F. Williams' Air Line in the first, for a payoff of $50.60. He made it two Straicht on the favored Good Omen in the 6econd, skipped a race, then came back with a triumph on Highest Point in the fourth. A crowd of some 8000 persons put together a fairly respectable handle of $254,683.

Told that a sound recording apparatus indicated the fourth, round lasted 96 seconds longer than the regulation three minutes, Brig-Gen John J. Phelan, chairman of the commission, said: "That is too ridiculous. We have competent officials and their watches never vary.

We have the utmost confidence in them. If Ancil Hoffman (Baer's manager) asks for an investigation we will pay absolutely no attention to him." Hoffman was quoted as saying he would ask that the timing be Investigated, not that anything can be done about it now, since Baer probably would have lost, anyway, "but there's always a chance." Would Have Saved Baer If the timing device was right and the watch of George Bannon, the commission's timekeeper, wrong, Baer would have been saved by the bell in the fourth round as he was in the third. Bannon's watch showed the fight ended after 2 minutes, 50 seconds of the fourth round. The watch, visible at all times, never stopped during the fight and showed exactly 14 minutes 50 seconds elapsed time from start to finish When Referee Arthur Donovan finished counting out Baer Bannon KILPATRICK RETAINS CONTROL OF GARDEN NEW YORK, Sept 27 (A Officials of Madison Square Garden today announced that stockholders nad voted to uphold Col John R.
