Dinah will be supported by Peter Lind Hayes, who specializes in satirical sketches, and Bandleader Robert Emmet Dolan. Ives learned of his folk songs from his grandmother. As a youth he travelled all over the country, singing to the accompaniment of his guitar for his board and lodg ing. He collected new ballads, many of which he later made famous. After landing by accident in a New York stock company, the burly folk singer had small parts in several Broadway musical comedies. His big chance came when the Theatre Guild signed him to sing in "Sing Out, Sweet Land." Hollywood called him soon afterward to appear in his first motion picture, "Smoky." As natural and unaffected as ever, Ives prefers his beloved houseboat to a Hollywood mansion and once specified as a condition for living on land, "a house with a swimming pool large enough for my houseboat.
