A. JAMTSSON. 1 See Trees. BUSINESS FORCES ENLARGEMENT onges to Make Urge -T Add! teas to Their Stares The effect ot Judicious advertising tn the development ef business Is well shoWn in Brysbn. Graham and departmental store.

Owing to the great Increase of business, new departments have had tn be started, others greatly enlarged, and many new hands employed to supply the wants of an increasingly large number ot customers. 5 Journal reporter was shown some of the latest Improvements by Mr. Howard, the firm's advertising manager. The grocery department is to have large additional space. What was formerly the basement nnaer the store at the corner of O'Connor and Sparks streets has been completely renovated and new hardwood floors and easing have been put In.

The new division is reached by a bread stairway leading down from the present grocery store. The extent ef the business may be understood from the fact that three men are continually tying up grocesy parcels during business hours. In the other departments twenty-two beys tie parcels. The business jln cheap books has grown so much as a result of advertising that the department formerly used for toys, books and stationery has been given up entirely to books and stationery. A line toy department, feet long, hap been! opened on the second floor and dolls'j and toys exclusively will be kept there.

Fine plate glass combined counters and show cases have been put Mi In this department. On the same floor the fifth cash desk and fourth parcel counter put up by the firm are new being construeted. The boot and business has also grown greatly, so that an extra department was required for trunks and sarokels. This was secured by cutting a hols tor a stairway in the shoe department floor and opening up the cellar, A hardwood floor and easing changed the place wenderf ully, and new it is a fine trunk department. "Who Is It shbws yen how to utilise your space as wen asked the reporter.

"I'm glad you asked that question." said Mr. Howard. "Necessity makes us do it. It's jthe result ef advertising." One hundred and forty-five hands are steadily employed In this hive of Industry and to handle the increased business Mr. Howard says about twenty more hinds will required.

Loodoa ays Editor Journal, As a former resident of the city ot Ottawa, I ask space in your paper to say a few words about the coming football match between Ottawa City and. Toronto 'Varsity. Just now It seems useless to enumerate and discuss the objections which have been offered to the playing of this match but it may not be amiss to warn the Ottawa City team collectively and Individually that' the eyes ef ths whole football fraternity In Ontario will be upon them next Saturday and that they must for the sake of football ahd amateur sport play a fair game.

They are eld enough, big enough and strong enough' In every way to play the game fairly without resorting to tactics which have been so frequently used of late by many teams and which are a disgrace to any form of sport I know that your team can play good, fair football and I know also that tne recent match between 'Varsity and Queen's would seem to show that no aggregation of players can be made to play fairly without a fair referee: but yet the remebrance of last year's games in Ottawa and the recent be-heavleur ef some of yeur players are at 11 fresh in the minds of all who follow- football. It is growing in favor and no doubt will continue to do so the better Its advantages become known.

The system was commenced last August with six denominations. Without any advantage and the fact not being generally known there were used during the week 2.778 notes. During the I month of September, wtien the system became better known, there were Issued 11, and in October 15.148. making In all 20.013.
