Hovious spoke with Tennessee Athletic Director Doug Dickey about a larger payout Saturday, but no agreement was reached. "At, this time, we will get $175,000, but it's not definite," Hovious said.

"lit- Lee suffers worst loss as UTEP coach i By Don Henry El Paso Times KNOXVILLE, Tenn. The Saturday night movie was Clockwork Orange. And it was X-rated. "We won't even look at the films of tonight," UTEP Coach David Lee said after Tennessee's 56-0 drubbing of the Miners. "We took a licking tonight, and we're not feeling real good about it now.

I felt we had a great game plan, if we could have slowed those defensive ends down a bit. Their ends just blew by our tackles." It was Lee's worst defeat as a UTEP coach. He has a 3-12 record with the Miners. "We coaches have a tough job ahead of us," Lee said. "We must try to bring our team back emotionally." That comeback must come against the last team to shut out the Miners: Colorado State.

UTEP travels to Fort Collins, next Saturday afternoon. A year ago, in El Paso, the Rams blistered the Miners, 52-0. It was the Miners' worst performance of the 1989 season. Saturday, Colorado State lost at Arizona State, 31-20, for its first defeat of the season. If the Miners do watch Saturday's game film, they might get sick to their stomachs.

As it was, about half of them were sick to their stomachs anyway. Lee said half the team woke up Saturday morning intestinal problems and diarrhea. Several became ill during the ballgame, but that had nothing to do with the outcome, Lee said. The victory elevated Tennessee to a 3-0-1 record and did little to besmirch its ranking of seventh in the nation. UTEP fell to 1-2.

Saturday night, the Miners learned what speed really is. On special teams, the Volunteers were swift. Offensively, they were speedy. Defensively, they were just blurs. "They are the fastest team I've seen in 16 years of coach-Please see UTEP 7C Angel E.

Cumberland lost to Georgia Tech 222-0 in 1916 game the most lopsided loss in college football history.

Cumberland dropped football in 1949, but brought it Saturday, losing Kansas State routs the Aggies, 52-7 "I've been beaten badly, but I don't ever recall one worse than this. Everything we could do wrong offensively, defensively, kicking game and coaching we did." Jim Hess, NMSU coach to CamDbellsville 34-0. "It's don't ever recall one worse than this," NMSU's first-year coach Jim Hess said. "Everything we could do wrong offensively, defensively, kicking game and coaching we did. We're not that bad a football team, but today we were." The Aggies trailed 28-0 after the first quarter.

Their troubles started the very first time the Aggies touched the football. Aggie kick returner Ray Washington bobbled the opening kickoff, and although he recovered for a touchback on the NMSU 20, it was a sign of things to come. Four plays later, running back Mike Beauregard fumbled the ball at the NMSU 31, and Please see Aggies 7C a dream. By Steve Ramirez El Paso Times MANHATTAN, Kan. The New Mexico State football team had high hopes Saturday of snapping the nation's longest losing streak among major college teams. The Aggies had no such luck, though, as the losing streak hit 20 straight in a 52-7 loss at Kansas State. It was a rout from the beginning. Kansas State capitalized on three first-quarter turnovers by New Mexico State and led, 42-0, at halftime of the non-conference game at Kansas State Stadium.

Kansas State improved to 2-0, the first time the Wildcats have been 2-0 since 1982, the year they finished 6-5-1 and played in the Independence Bowl. It to be an historical day in the Kansas State football program for two other reasons: It was Kansas State's first victory over an NCAA Division 1-A team in 39 games. And, the Wildcats' final score was the most points Kansas State scored in a game since defeating Oklahoma 59-21 in 1969. The Aggies fall to 0-3 for the season and have not won a game since Oct. 1, 1988, when they beat the Wildcats' key rival Kansas 42-29 in Lawrence, Kansas.

After Notre Dame linebacker Michael Stonebreaker halted a Michigan drive with an interception in his own end zone, the Irish offense did the rest. Notre Dame drove 76 yards in nine plays for the winning touchdown that extended its home winning streak to 18 games.
