Now, let's hope some network producer doesn't look at, say, ''The Silence of the Lambs" and decide there's a great weekly series there about a diabolical psychiatrist who eats his patients. Some stories are better left on celluloid. Today's choices "Figure Skating," 7 p.m., Channel 9-KTSM (NBC).

Kicking off three days of coverage of the World Championships from Munich, Germany, will be the men's individual competition, featuring two-time defending U.S. champ Todd Eldredge, two-time world titlist Kurt Browning of Canada and current European champ Viktor Petrenko of the Soviet Union. One hour. "Great Performances: The Richard Tucker Opera Gala," 7 p.m., Channel 13-KCOS (PBS). The opera world honors the late American tenor Richard Tucker, who died in 1975 with this star-studded show taped last November at New York's Averv Fisher Hall.

Performers include Luciano Pa-varotti, Marilyn Home, Samuel Ramey and Renee Fleming, with accompaniment by the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra. Two hours. Late-night roundup "Tonight," 10:30 p.m., Channel 9-KTSM (NBC). Actress Isabella Rossellini and the Trinity Irish Dancers are guests. One hour.

"Arsenio Hall," 11:05 p.m., On TU tonight By Joseph Kahn Boston Globe "Baby Talk" i3 the second network replacement show this season to spin off from a Hollywood movie. The other, the dramatic series "Eddie Dodd," takes its inspiration from "True Believers," a gritty film about a maverick defense lawyer. "Baby Talk" is adapted from the 1989 box-office smash "Look Who's Talking," featuring a wisecracking Bruce Willis as the voice of the world's hippest little tyro. It airs at 8:30 tonight on Channel 7-KVIA (ABC). What worked in both these films, alas, seldom makes a smooth transition to the small screen.

Just as James Woods' Eddie Dodd has been watered down for television (though Treat Williams is fun to look at), so does this gimmicky, overcute sitcom lack the irreverent punch of its cinematic predecessor. In tonight's episode little Mickey (featuring the voice of Tony Danza) crawls his way into the bright lights of show business when his mother Maggie (Julia Duffy) is courted by an advertising executive (Craig Bierko) who thinks Mickey would make a dynamite spokes-baby. Aside from a near endless barrage of infant-reaction shots (and face it, put a camera on a gaggle of giggling 6-month-olds long enough and you'll come up with something certifiably cute), there really isn't much to cut your teeth on.
