By JIM HAWKINS Enterprise Staff Writer Construction of a new air cargo building at Friendship Airport will cost $275,671, according to bids opened Thursday at the terminal building. Ted Johnson, an official of the Greensboro-High Point Airport Authority, indicated the agency was generally pleased with the bids for erection of the structure which will contain 18,000 square feet of floor space for handling of cargo.

Completion of the structure will allow removal of cargo handling arrangements from the rear of the crowded terminal building to new, larger areas in what will be the first building i specifically for that purpose at the Greensboro-High Point- Winston-Salem Airport. The structure will provide space for each cf the three airlines now serve the airport. In addition, it is also expected to provide an area for handling of mail and space for some cargo carriers. Future plans call for erection of a larger cargo structure in a new area as a part of a major terminal complex which is expected to also provide a new passenger terminal and space for enlarged fixed-base operations.
