'Hit Parade' Signs New Song Star it tern ft Be MARGARET WHITING One of radio's choice vocal plums, th role of soloist on Hit Parade," has fallen to. an almost unknown nineteen year old miss from California. Margaret Whiting is the young woman, and he begins her chores on the pro gram tonight a to 9.45 p. over WHP. Margaret is one more child of a parent in show business making a bid to outstrip the fame of her forebear.

She is the daughter of the late Dick Whiting, one of America's' top notch song writers. Born in Detroit, she was moved five years later to Hollywood, Vhere her fattier was writing music for the early talkies. Although Miss Whiting showed talent for singing even before she reached her teens, it was only two years ago that a friend introduced her to a radio producer on the staff of a Hollywood Station. Hearing her sing, he proffered her a sustaining spot. In turn, CBS officials heard and engaged her for similar work on Columbia's Pacific Network.

Other than the fact that she recently performed at 60 United States Army camps in a two month period, has auburn hair and blue eyes, has one younger sister and collects symphonic records, everything has been said. WHP RADIO PROGRAMS FOR THE ENTIRE WEEK STARTING NOVEMBER 2, 1941 Jean Hersholt Starts Fifth Year as Radio's 6Dr. Christian' With the 154th episode of "Dr. Christian," Jean Hersholt begins his fifth consecutive year as the beloved physician of River End in a drama entitled Grandma Streamlined" Wednesday, 8.30 to 8.55, over WHP.

The "Dr. Christian" stories, starring the noted Danish movie actor, were introduced over CBS in November, 1937, and became so popular that movies of the same name, with Hersholt in the title role, were subsequently produced. Lurene Tuttle is currently heard as Judy Price, the doctor's faithful secretary who projects him from scheming folk and who helps him crot tha 'vii7iicfrll. .1.0.. mere medicine can't cure.

When Hersholt hersholt makes his yearly trip to New York, Helen i iaire taxes over tne Judy role. This year Mr. and Mrs. Hersholt arrive in New York from Holly wood during Christmas week. New Parade of Stars' to Brighten WHP i if MEREDITH WILLSON Latest entrant in the race for radio's popularity stake is "Pa rade of Stars," talent packed se ries of quarter hour programs which will be heard over Station WHP Sunday afternoon at 1.15, Tuesday and Thursday morning at 10.45 and Saturday morning at 11.15.

Lead off man among the celeb rities is Kenny Baker, the tenor, who won national recognition on Jack Benny's programs for a cou ple of seasons. Kenny is now heard regularly on the Fred Allen network shenanigans. The laugh department will be under the direction of cigar ing, keen witted Ken Murray. A veteran of stage, screen and radio, Murray has made up a new bag of tricks which will be opened to the public for the first time on this series. Ken and Kenny promise to set the world on fire with a special rib tickling routine.

However, that not all. There'll be scintillating music, too. Mere dith Willson, ace composer and conductor, will be the baton man who is set to knock out a couple of homers. Willson has one of the finest reputations in the country. Two of his latest popular songs.

"You and and "Two in Love" are in the "Hit Parade" register. The sponsor's representative will be Harlow Wilcox, super smooth mike saleman. "Parade of Stars" is heard semi annually for Rexall drugs.
