Kehoe and her three assistants agreed that the public, in a number of cases, had tried to play a quiz game with them but that they were able for the most part to take care of even the oddest queries. The first query, "How do you get to LaGuardia Airport?" was promptly answered and it looked like a good start.

Then came a prankish woman visitor who demanded the location of "White- exam for the post of assistant secretary of the Department of Public Works. Born in Manhattan. "The presentment does not preclude further investigation and indictments when cases warrant. It is possible that, before the investigation is completed, higher officials of the Police Department may be involved. No sooner had word reached Manhattan and Brooklyn Police Headquarters than reports began circulating among worried officials that at least one inspector, several deputy inspectors and a number of captains had been involved. Even before Amen's announcement it was evident that a thorough shake-up might result from the Brooklyn investigation. A possibly significant angle developed when, at 9 A.
