This outspoken man who an.m HYDE PARK, Dec 25 Because his wife steadily refused to live with him again Dr Walter Raleigh Amesbury this noon shot her as she stood In the kitchen of her home on the third floor at 220 Metropolitan av, preparing the Christmas dinner. Mrs Amesbury ran out of the kitchen and fled downstairs, dying in the corridor below almost immediately. Two sons of the doctor rushed Into the kitchen from an adjoining room at the sound of the shot and threw themselves on the father, knocking him down and wresting his revolver away from him. They held him until the police came.

Dr Amesbury has been practicing medicine In Milford, Mass, since last August, and has been separated from his wife for some time. She had bee.i teaching music In Roanoke college at Danville, Va, and came home to spend Christmas, arriving at the house last night. The flat has been occupied by Mrs Amesbury's mother, Mrs Jennie Rees, and Mrs Amesbury's two sons, Amesbury was grief -stricken and remorseful, but would say very llttl about the tragedy. "I didn't mean to kill her," said he. "I was lonesoma without her.

I didn't feel that I could live without her. And when she told me to go ahead and get a divorce from her, it stirred me up so that I dldn'l rightly know what I was about." He acknowledged that he bought th revolver, which was of 22 caliber, with seven chambers, two of which were empty. In Milford yesterday. Asked why his wife left him originally, he seemed unable to give a direct reason, but said vaguely that they couldn't seem to get along together. Dr Walter Raleigh Amesbury was th son of a surgeon general of the English army and was born 49 years ago.

The patrolman passed a remark to trie effect that his appearance did not indicate that he was very hard pressed whereupon the well-pleased guest of the army admitted that he was in immediate danger of going to the tow farm, but having come to Bdston from back in the country to see the sights and enjoy himself, he had squandered the money he had taken with him, was down and out financially, and hadn't tasted food since Monday. Escaping illuminating gas caused the death of two persons and came near causing tiie death of two others In the West End Christmas morning. About 8:30 Mrs Helen E. Murphy, who occupies the third floor of the wooden building, corner of Staniford and Mer-rimac sts, numbered 135 Staniford st, became alarmed at the smell of gas escaping from the room occupied by her son Thomas, 11 years old, and her brother Thomas Heslop.

49 years old. Upon investigating she was horrified to tind their room filled with gas and both lying apparently dead in bed. The gas was found to be escaping from the single bracket, which was somewhat bent, and the gas tip had been knocked cut of the burner. Her cries brought the others of the household to her assistance and the Cap Sent to Mattapan Home With Slip From Roxbury Store. on the bottom of the safe was cut with ease, and then with the sharp-pointed jimmies and a heavy mallet found in the store, the cement was broken through sufficiently to permit one of the men to reach his arm inside the safe.

The money, which was in an ordinary billhook, was pulled out and then the checks and other valuables, em well as a wooden box containing silver and small change. Nothing else in the store was touched. The cash registers with money in each were not tampered with, and from all appearances the men did not bother themselves with even looking through the desk in the office, preferring probably not to take any chance of being seen from the outside. The men evidently made their way out in the same way they came In. Once in the basement of the tenement again, thev discardpd their tr.io Store breakers in daylight yesterday got Into the liquor store of Flashman Bros, 81 to 85 Green st, West End, removed the safe from the office to a rear room, turned it upside down, and after boring a hole in the bottom, which was partly cement instead of solid Bteel, rifled it of Its contents, Including about $1400 in cash, $600 in checks, and other property, the whole valued at about $2300.

The burglars left behind them the tools with which they worked. These were found In the basement of a house at 5 Leverett st and gave knowledge of the route employed by the gang to enter the store Nothing was known of the break until just after 6 o'clock last evening, when Simon Flashman. one of the firm, went to the store to see If the lights were burning and everything all right. The front of the store is fitted up with counters and shelves and the offlce about midway of the store occupies a space of about 12 feet square. The safe, which is of an old pattern, was kept in one corner of the office.

When the store was closed Tuesday night, a light was left burning In the office so that anyone passing along the street had a clear view of the interior as far as the rear of the office. It did not sufficiently light the rear store, however, to permit of anyone being seen In that i ortion. Judging from appearances the burglars for there must have been several, had' carefully planned the break and operated only at a time when they were fairly certain there would be a good-sized sum of money in the safe. Amerbury Jr, 20 years old, and Ira 17 years old. These were all In the flat when the tragedy came to its climax. Dr Amesbury either came with Mrs Amesbury, or else had heard that she was coming. At any rate he also slept at the flat last night, and by his own statement tonight, came prepared to make the most determined effort to get his wife to return to him. He says that he bought the revolver with which he shot her in Milford yesterday.

This morning at 10 o'clock Dr Amesbury and his wife had a long taik. which became somewhat heated, on he subject of living together again. The original trouble Is said by everybody who has known the two to have been caused by the doctor's jealousy of his wife. She had taker a prominent part in church affairs, and had earned money by teaching thevnttdren of various churches to sing and to dance for entertainments. With this the doctor had found fault for a long time This morning, his sons say, the argument culminated in a direct demand by him.

"Unless you will come back to me." he said. "I shall procure a divorce." "Go ahead and get a divorce," said Mrs Amesbury, and the doctor left the $2,000,000 FOR TRINITY. A claim that a girl's honor was at stake and protests against her keeping company with a certain young man led to the killing of Salvatore Cappucci, aged 36, married, of 49 Tlleston st, in the North End, at 8:40 last night.

Gae-tano Lo Conte, aged 21, of 28 Fleet st, is under arrest at the Hanover-st station on a charge of manslaughter. Last night Lo Conto tired of the protests and when Cappucci spoke to him he pulled a 38-caliber revolver and fired two shots. The shooting occurred in the doorway of the house, 58 Prince st, where Lo Conte was standing with the girl. Cappucci, his wife and child, who had been to a store, passed along, the wife and chi'd In the lead. As Cappucci saw the couple In the doorway he stopped and ordered Lo Conte to leave.
