The Mayor-Elect of Worcester, who will be sworn in New Year's Day, has been a lifelong Democrat. He is the third Democrat to be elected Mayor IH 49 omens ISJHForcester since the days of Charles B. David F. O'Connell, the Mayor-Elect, born .11 Ireland Keb 8, 1858, stop has been a candidate for Mayor of AVorcester four times. He was defeat ed three times by small pluralities. When he announced his candidacy this year he was not the unanimous choice of the party, but after the caucuses the Democrats got together, and Mr O'Connell was elected by a plurality of 2033. His success at the polls can be ascribed to several things, but no one factor In his election played a more prominent- part than the plan which Worcester Democratic leaders have been working on for years.
