At the same time the Governor also nominated Harold P. Williams of Brookline as justice of the Superior Court, to succeed Frederick Lawton, recently retired.) These two appointment swill come before the Council at the meeting next week for confirmation. Mr Dvlln was born in Dorchester in 1877 and was graduated from Boston College in 1897 and Harvard Law School In 1900. He engaged in general law practice, was legislative counsel for the city of Boston for 12 years and later was secretary and counsel to Police Commissioners OMeara and Curtis. He has been Assistant Attorney General at the State House since 1922.

Mr Williams was born in Foxboro, in 1882, and was graduated from Harvard in 1903 and the Harvard Law School in 1906. Since 1909 he has been associated with his father In, the law firm of Williams Copeland, at 60 Congress st. In l9lS he was appointed assistant district attorneyvfor the southeastern district by Dist Atty Frederick G. Katzmann and served under Katz-man until 1922. In that year he was elected district attorney for the district and held' the office until appointed to the office of United States attorney, in January, 1925.

He is married, has one son, Harold P. Williams Jr, and resides at 26 Coolidge Brookline. STATE SPRINGS SURPRISE WITNESS MILLS CASE John L. Dixon Places Willie Stevens Near Scene Of Murders on Night of Crime By CORINNE DANFORTH WORCESTER, Nov 3Aa woman wielding the power of women and not bothering her head about the mens vote won, the felectloii to represent, the 19th Worcester District In the General Court. Mrs Florence Seaver Slocomb, the first woman Legislator from Worcester, attributes her victory to her women supporters, efficiently organized.

Mrs SlocoiAb -planned the organization. Her campaign committee was composed of women, 60 members of the Womens Republican Club. She reached every Republican woman in the district by phone or person and every Democratic woman by letter. A number of the Democratic women became her hardest workers. Through the women she expected to reach the men.

One woman has often meant five votes, says Mrs Slocomb. A mother Ds Russeys lane. He said he directed Willie to a street car. In statements issued prior to the trial, it was asserted that Willie had been at home on the evening of the murder. Dixon was permitted to testify before the establishment of the fact of death and other preliminaries because he said he wa sneeded on urgent business in New York.

Mrs Dixon followed him on the stand. The jury was selected within an hour and a half after court opened this morning and was dismissed by Justice Charles, W. Parker of the Supreme Court while he conferred with counsel. Does Not Inclade a Woman The Jury does not include a woman, although Senator Simpson, special prosecutor, had planned to get a woman juror, because she w'ould better understand the workings of Mrs Halls mlnd- In examining one of the talesmen, Senator Simpson accused him of attempting to induce a member of the indicting Grand Jury not to return an indictment against the defendants. The State used all its five challenges, but the defense used only, one.

While the Jury was being selected, Justice Parker commanded court guards to seize a newspaper photographers camera. The photographer, who had been taking photographs of the proceedings, surrendered the camera without objection and it was Im- Plir his opening address which lasted 20 Senator Simpson gave a review of the circumstantial evidence which waa disclosed at the hearings. Walsh, Democrat, was elected United States Senator for the remaining two years of the late Senator Henry Cabot Lodges tern by a plurality of 55,291 over William M. Butler, Republican. Lieut Gov Frank G. Allen, Republican, was reelected by a plurality of 164,281 over Mayor Edmond P.

Talbot of Fall River, Democrat. The Congressional districts will probably continue as they have been, with 13 Republicans and three Democrats, Foley's Plurality 39,560 Ex-Senator William J. Foley of South Boston, Democrat, was elected district attorney of Suffolk County by a plurality of 39,560. He received Dist Atty Thomas C. OBrien, Republican candidate, received 64,137, and Charles G.

Keene, Independent, 23,343. The Executive Council membership is unchanged. There are still seven Republicans and one Democrat, the latter, James F. Powers of Boston, a new member. In the Massachusetts Legislature the Republicans have gained six Representatives and one Senator over their totals in the present General Court.

The surprise witness was John L. Dixon, an accountant who lived In North Plainfield, on Sept 14, 1922, when the Rev Edward Wheeler Hall and Mrs Eleanor Mills were murdered. Dixon testified that about 8:30 o'clock on the murder night "Willie Stevens, who, with his brother, Henry, and his sister, Mrs Frances Stevens Hall, are on trial for the murder of Mrs Mills, came to his house asking for directions. Dixons name had not previously been mentioned In this case. Dixon said Willie told him his sister had dropped him from her automobile near Dixon's house, thinking they were near the Parker House, a home for the aged, about 500 yardi from the supposed murder scene, Dixon first sa iw "Willie peeping through the doors of his home.
