Winner Unable to -Repeat With Knockout Punch. KANSAS CITY. Mo. March 1 In a grilling 10-round battle before 200 mfimtcrs of the Grand-av Athletic Club at the Academy of Music tonight. Clarence Ferns of Kansas City won a decision over Dave Deshler of Boston.

It is Ferns second victory within three weeks over Deshler, the first one by a knockout. Only four rounds of the fight tonight wefe Ferns'. Four were about even and two easily were Deshlers. Deshler protested the decision, saying he should have had a draw. was a slam-bang affair.

In two of the rounds. Ferns had Dave staggering. Once Deshler put a right to the chin, which had Ferns going for a minute, but he recovered. Both boys showed ability to take punishment, each being in perfect condition. Before his first fight.

Deshler rode on a train from Boston and claimed he was not in the best of Deshler weighed in at 112 pounds last night, hut Ferns refused to weigh, being over the welterweight limit. Watchers at Jefferson Barracks Are Start Jed. 8T LOUIS, March 1 For the first time la the history of heavier than air flying, a man leaped from an aeroplane at Jefferson Rarracks this aitemoon and descended to the earth in a parachute.

The man was Capt Albert Berry. Berry and Jannus left the aviation field in the afternoon in a two-passenger Iplane. Beneath the machine in a specially constructed case was a large parachute, similar to those which aeronauts leap from. was seen to leave his Beat tne machine when It was at a hight feet. Jannus steered the iplane over tha field at a rate of as biplane over tha field at a rate of 35 miles an hour.

Berry slipped down uP'r the aeroplane to a trapeze bar wit ached to the parachute. yith practiced hand, Jannus steadied the machine. 'Berry gave a quick Jerk of a ropo and a knife flashed. Man and parachute plunged downward while the aeroplane, bouncing uo liko a cork, suddenly poised and steadied itself. Hundreds of watchers held their breath as the man shot toward tho earth, the parachute trailing after him.
