The underwriters' representatives with a diver have gone to Eon Portage island to investigate the wreck of the steamer Express, owned by the Yarmouth ste3mboat company, with a view to ascertaining whether erie can be raised. If no severe storms set In, it IS hoped she may be floated. A leak in the schooner Harry Belden, which arrived here several days ago trom a haddockng trip. made it necessary to place the vessel in Simpson's thy dock yesterday for repairs.

The immigration inspectors were obliged to debar 20 of the steerage passengers on the steamer New England, which arrived here Friday from Liverpool and Queenstown. Nineteen from the steerage of the Cephalonia, which arrived yesterday from the Same ports, were also held for further examination. In the latter lot there was one family of eight. HARBOR FRONT ITEMS. Wrecked Steamer Belvidere May be Floated. Cargo of Nagar from Java, on Which the Duties fill Exceed $100,000. About 40 Steerage Passengers Held by the Immigration Inspectors. Capt Mills of the British steamer Jacob Bright, at this port from Rio Grande, Nicaragua, reports on Sept 23, when passing cape Maysi, Cuba, an unknown te am presumably a wrecking vessel', was sighted lying off the stranded fruit steamer Belvidere.

The position -of the stranded vessel had changed from her former position, when she was lying broadside on the beach, and her bow was at least six points off shore, with her stern still hanging on the rocks. A kedge anchor with a heavy cabb2 attached was run out from the vessel's bow, holding her in position. From this report it is believed the work of floating the steamer, which has been undertaken by a party of Americans with the consent of the underwriters, is progressing favorably that it is only a question of a short time before she will be afloat. The Belvidere, it ill be remembered, ran ashore on the rocks at Maysi on the night of May 26 last, while on a passage from Port Antonio to this port with a cargo of fruit and several passengers. She was abandoned -as a hopeless wreck, as it waa believed that a sharp ledge had penetrated her bottom.

Since then the vessel has been stripped of everything movable by the natives. The Spanish steamer Alava, which left New York yesterday for Ha Vanet will be the last of Spanish line leaving for some time. Cable IS'at4ed Customer Is the best kind of an advertisement.
