IN GOOD RACING HANDS. New Herreshoff 46-Footer Will be Well Cared For Chance for Eastern Yachtsmen to Beat Her Notes. The cat is out of the bag at last. The mystery surrounding the ownership of the 46-footer now being built by the Herre-shoffs has been cleared away during tne past week, and the New York gentleman who placed the order with the famous Bristol firm is now known to be Archibald Rogers, an enthusiastic yachtsman, and a Corinthian skipper of no mean ability. The announcement that Mr.

Rogers was the owner of the boat has been received with much pleasure by yachtsmen generally. They were hoping that she would be in such hands as would insure the best possible sport, and now they find that not only is the owner a gentleman with means, ability and a desire to bring the boat to the front place in the class, but also that she will be sailed by a racing skipper whose reputation is second to none Capt. Charley Barr, whose success with the Minerva and Oweene have been so marked. Mr. Rogers himself says that he proposed to race the boat for all she is worth, aDd that if she doesn't beat the Gloriana both he aud the builders will be very much disappointed.

Thus the best of sport seems to be looming up ahead in the class, and the correct thiug to make it still more distinct would be for some of our Eastern yachtsmen to place an order with Eastern designers and give the latter a chance to see if they cannot in turn outdo the Herreshoffs. There are many yachtsmen with both time and money enough to bring a crack racer to the front, and It is to be hoped tor the sake of the sport that some of them will be heard from. In the meantime, the boat about which there has been so much talk and conjecture. is fast approaching completion at the Bristol shops. Most of her double-' planking is on and the fine points of her model are clearly shown.

As was promised by the look of the boat as she was seen in frame by the writer, she is a larger Gloriana. with longer and finer ends, and probably a greater proportion of ballast to displacement than last years champion. Her construction is light. but very strong. and in smoothness of outside she will be far ahead of any boat planked in the ordinary way.

Her double planking is put on in such way as to do away with the necessity of caulking the seams, and a perfectly smooth surface is thus assured. When the boat is afloat it will take a wonderfully- keen eye to detect the points wherein she differs from the Gloriana. With both boats hauled ont. the differences in keels and the way tue lead is hung would be at once apparent. She should be ready to sail early in the spring, and will have a big advantage In BUFFALO HORN COODS.

Why He Felt He was No Stranger in Addressing the Bride. Two young fellows, partners in the tea trade, were the best of friends, and their intimacy extended to personal as well as business matters. One of them, a simple-minded fellow, was a bachelor, and was in the habit of reading to his partner extracts from letters of an ardent and affectionate nature from a lady in the north of England, who signed herself Susie. The married one went to China for 12 months, and returned just in time to attend th wedding of his partner. He sent the happy couple a wedding present.

and at the wedding reception stepped forward gallantly to pay his respects.
