i Took to runt and Finally Readied Orr's Island. PITTSBURG, Aug 7. Mrs Theodore Shaffer, wife of the iteel strike leader. Is broken hearted because peace negotiations have fallen through and a general strike has been ordered. When her husband left here for New York last Friday night the last words she said after kissing him goodby were: "Dring back good news, Theodore.

All we women want to bear is that peace is declared." Today, in discussing the strike order, she said: "I am distressed and grieved beyond measure that the strike must go on. I am worried for the sake of thousands of women who will be affected by it, and I am worried personally because the strain of the last month has been almost too much for Mr Shaffer. He is worn and nervous. has gone with only fragments of sleep, and now with the prospect of a long and bitter contest which may last through the summer I fear the results. "I wish the whole world could just know how anxious for peace my husband is.

The public, as a rule, Imagines that a man who happens to be leading a strike is fond of agitation and anxious to shine as a leader of men. How wrong this is! "Ever since the strike began Mr Shaffer has worked and prayed that any trouble might be averted. But be has strict Ideas of what is right, and if he believes that it is his duty, one which he owes to the thousands of men who are trusting in him, he will risk his own happiness rather I than prove unworthy of that trust." 1175.411 73.111 55, )43311 4.2A7,743 117.43,1 89,147 Cross $493,1,41 Net 164,210 litP 144,703 12 Eta, gross 4.7104.C43 Net 1,2141.779 Ea More 1,052,8411 Poe the Coast Oross Op expenses, 141,665 Net 12 mos groan 5.137.1145 Op expeuees Net 1,150,1.569 Dion Pacific Divident Percent. it would be interesting to know 'whether the advance in the steel wa t. caused by the covering of shorts who only team) that the labor troubles will be encied, Or by insiders who know that they wid he. The probable conclusion is that the former is rerponsible tor the Mday. Conservative opinion is that the strikers are not yet ready to succumb, nor art the monagets of the corporation prepared to succumb. The declaration of the dividend on Union Pacific! at a 4 percent rate was a disappointment to many who had expected LI 0 increase in the rate, but the stock did nut go off; on the contrary, it was very all clay.

Most of the other railroads also were higher. There was little of interest in the Boston market, where most of the transactions were in the arbitragts stocks. The steels were very quiet and dull.
