Browning, millionaire real estate operator, who advertised recently for a "pretty, refined girl about 14 years old," for adoption. From among several thousand applicants who have written to him the 200 or more he has Interviewed, Mr Browning selected Margaretta, a tiny youngster who appears about four years younger than her age.

as perhaps the best playmate for Dorothy Sunshine, whom he adopted six years ago. Margaretta, shaking her long fat curls and opening wide her brown eyes, is quite convinced that she would like to be the daughter of Mr Browning, adding as a codicil that she would like to keep her young blonde mother, who was once an actress. The child's mother decided that it would be glorious or Margaretta to have the same luxuries as Dorothy, who she learned had 100 dolls, 150 dresses and an expensive automobile of her own. Matters progressed smoothly with the papers ready for signatures late this afternoon when the mother began to realize what losing Margaretta would mean. Excited, ready to cry, she dashed from Mr Browning's office, leaving behind her the child, playing with a string of lavender tinted pearls, the gift of Mr Browning.

Stoddard st, between Howard and Courts st. was a quiet, little known business thoroughfare until the Cam-bridge-st widening was begun. Nobody speculated upon the effect the widening might have upon Stoddard st. It was just one of a number of streets doomed to be clipped. Today Stoddard st promises to take its place among the Hall of Fame streets, Broadway.

Wall Street. State Street. Downing Sreet. and the rest, with the distinction of being the shortest street in the world, 55 feet from bow to stern. Stoddard st, proud of its claim to fame, challenges all comers, blind alleys, backyard entrances and "Dangerous Passings" barred.

Stoddard st is a regulation street with four doors, sidewalks and curbstones. It will accommodate anything from a live-ton truck to a pair of roller skates and is easily accessible from both ends. Stoddard st does not expect that its claim, will be contested to simmer down to an argument like how old is yimr collar button? Although a street in Quebec, known as Petit Chanrplain. now holds an uncontested record as being the narrowest street in North America. Stoddard st probably narrower.
